CLR'd my tailgate this morning... happy boy

A few weeks ago I tried CLR on the driverside of my truck, I didn't get the results I had hoped for...... the paint is just too thin.

This morning I tried it on the tailgate and it helped alot. I used steel wool and a green scuff pad.

That worked great!! I have read a few threads, and looked at a bunch of pictures that show the same results. I can't wait until my truck is at that stage, so I can try it!

Hey Sig...are you using water and CLR or just scrubbing on the CLR?

This is actually Lime away which is the basically the exact same thing. Lime calcium and rust remover. I used a small spray bottle, diluted it half and half with water, spray it on let it soak a few minutes, use steel wool for the light areas ( with just brown looking stain ) and a green scotch brite for areas that has more rust showing. spray the steel wool or scotch brite along with the body of the truck and start rubbing. rinse with a hose and re apply as needed

Re: CLR'd my tailgate this morning... happy boy

I did several spots on the passenger side later today and it worked well also.
When the truck sat for 35 years the pass side was again some trees that i guess helped it from the wind and elements, the driver was exposed to the open yard and the paint is worn thinner on this side

Just to add something to this. Has anyone used Sno-bol toilet cleaner? It works great on rust too.. I have used it to move rust on concrete and does a great job.

DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this on a truck. Use with caution!
