It is nice for 67 or 68 Chevy truck for sure. I am surprised the K-Man did not point that out, he knows more than most about these parts. It will not work for 71 or 72 grilles. They require a diff. piece. Heads up on a great deal TTT.

So, this is a 67-68? How can one tell?

Re: 1971-72 Hood Latch

I believe it's a 69-72. The stamping in front rises up steep like the hoods and 67/68s are sloped like the hoods. But,I don't think it even matters.

Re: 1971-72 Hood Latch

Ok, that's what I thought. I remember when I got this that it was 'said' to come off of a '72. Thanks for the reply

And yes, I am basically giving this away, as the shipping will be $11.50 for a flat rate box.

If no takers, I'll use it as a paper weight in my garbage can

That is a 71/72 chevy hood latch GM P/N 3985103, Richard had it listed correctly from the start, I have used his same pics below and highlighted the ID giveaways. The first highlighted pic shows the drop down step at the front of the latch making it at least 69-72, the 67/68 latches are flat in this area. The second bottom view highlighted picture narrows it down yet farther again by showing the angle on the release lever making it 71/72 chevy, the 69/70 chevy latch levers are straight in this area while the 71/72's chevy levers are offset to the drivers side to allow access through the inner grill. Thanks for the great information, Mel. You truly are a walking 67-72 Chevy/GM Trucks encyclopedia.

Re: 1971-72 Hood Latch

You're welcome. I was only concerned with negating the claim that it was a 67/68 to help your sale get back on track. I was focused on the 67/68 vs 69-72 obvious difference on top. Just for reference, here is what a 67/68 looks like. It's a GMC so handle is way offset due to grille center bar. But you can see it is just like the hood difference...sloped compared to stepped up:

(Best picture I had at the time)

That is what I was going by, the offset. The one in the pic did not seem to be offset but centered. I also checked and the off set handle is a little smaller on my 72parts truck than my 68. Was just trying to help, still a great deal.

Re: 1971-72 Hood Latch

That's too nice to end up as a paper weight in your trash, so I'll take it. You don't happen to have a 71/72 center grille suport to go with it ?
PM me with info !
