Got this from the yard a few days ago. Just got all the little dings straightened out and it's in perfect shape now.
Im wondering now if thes are clear anodized or something. I know there is some sort of protective coating? I want to get it off so I can polish it back up and repaint and detail.

Also how rare are these panels?

Rubber tipped ball ping hammer. Only prob is the coating spider cracks after being bent back out so I need to take off the coating and re sand and polish and re seal it.

Yeah I tried to get some out of an old band just to test and they looked worse and more noticeable than before. Figured I'd just live with the dings on my other band.

i got one on my truck.never really gave it much thought about if it's rare or not .i just like the narrow look.i see them from time to time.

I'm trying to figure out how to remove mine for tailgate painting and it would be very helpful!

I might not say it's extremely rare but down here I mainly see the large tailgate bands. Hardly ever see any like yours.

Heres a NOS one i bought. These GMC ones seem to be a lot harder to find i have 3 chevrolet one and one 77 chevrolet one. Theres a thread some where on here on tailgate band restoration. Found it its on another website. Tailgate Band Restoration

I searched for a year on ebay before finding mine, its hard to even find a used bent one muchless a NOS one.

The bands i have fooled with, the wide ones, they have a satin clear on them... i've re done them with satin clear from ppg.

Just found this one on ebay. GMC logo is off centered like whats on my truck but the narrow band.

That's the regular size tailgate band for 81-91 Jimmy's. That's why there is no handle section. It is not the thin one discussed here.

Yes the GMC bands are hard to find. Good luck took me two years to find GMC narrow band. I found four chevrolet narrow bands in two weeks at junk yards.

thats not it but I do see people using those and doing a tailgate handle flip

the narrow ones are approx 4" wide

Insidious '86 they are nice man but if your truck has the 86 tailgate on it i do not believe they will fit man the center design is much different.
