Re: sm465

you have a few other considerations also. the 465 frt brg retainer is larger than the trans you now have. you either have to have the hole enlarged in your b/housing or put in the later b/housing which doesn't bolt to the c/member. you will thn have to install a rear trans mounting c/member

Re: sm465

On a shortbed you don't use a carrier bearing. What you will need is a one piece driveshaft that has a slip joint on the trans end. Then the U-joint will bolt up to the yoke on the back of the SM465. In your case you will have to either find a used one in a wrecking yard, or private party, or have a new one made. If you can find one that is too long and have it shortened, that will be less money.

Re: sm465

Glad you mentioned that Ron. Yes he will have to change the bellhousing. However all he needs is a '68-'72 bellhousing. They came with the SM465 and still mounted to a crossmember. I happen to have 2 or 3 laying around.

Re: sm465

Yes I would sell a bellhousing. I would like $40.00 plus shipping. Send me a PM if you are interested.

For a driveshaft, one from a '63-'87 shortbed truck with a 4 speed should either bolt up or be workable.
