project Daisycutter update.....after POR-15
Here's a couple of pics after I put on 2 coats of POR-15 on the rear of the chassis. Came out nice and slick. Now to put on a coat of the ChassisCoat paint for a topcoat.
Notice large black spot on driveway where I knocked the freakin' can of POR-15 over; that was expensive... ![]() I plan on cutting that left rear exhaust hanger off, so I didn't paint it. Just waiting on the rebuilt rear end so I can POR-15 it, then I can assemble the rear of the frame/suspension, move the bed back to its mounts, then repeat the whole process for the front of frame. Complete frame and suspension should be done by the end of May. Off to the bodyshop in June. Now to go cut the drips of POR-15 out of my hair......SC

Looks real nice. Do you think the top coat is required for the frame? I'm a little confused from the info I read whether the top coat is only necessary if sun is going to hit the paint, or if it should be always used.

I've probably used only a pint so far. That's doing half the short frame with 2 coats. A little goes a long way. I think a quart more will do the rest of the frame, the rear end, front suspension and misc.
I'm going to go ahead and chassis coat the whole frame. I know it says you only need to do the parts that will receive direct sunlight, but what the heck, I'll be right there - might as well do it all. SC

That looks real nice.
How did you strip off all the oil and stuff that usually is coated on the frame? |

Just a couple of questions.
Are you doing this all in your drive? If so its good to know I can do some stuff without a garage. Although I don't even have a paved drive. I rented a house next to my grandmothers to help her with things she need done. It looks good. I am assuming ( I have no body shop exp ) That what you put on prevents rust.
Nice Job!!! David

Yep, doing it all in the driveway. The 1 car garage is full of parts/tools.
Spray wash the frame to get as much gunk off as you can, then go to the dollar store and get 3 or 4 cans of EZ-OFF oven cleaner. Spray the EZ-OFF all over the part you want to clean, then let it sit overnight. Then wash and scrub the part clean. Let dry, then coat with whatever rust-sealing paint you are going to use. SC

Thanks for the tip. I would never have thought of using oven cleaner. I want my frame to look like yours when done.
Next question. What kind of bristle did your brush have when using the por-15? |

I have used a similiar product on frames......and interior before upholstery, and I used the 3" wide rollers from Home Depot. They are great for frame rales and the paint will lay out nice when dried, there is no sign of how it was applied.

I just did my frame,I used a quart of POR 15 sprayed it on and then before it dried all the way, when it was still tacky I sprayed over it with epoxy black paint and let them both set up together. This way there is no need to topcaot the por 15 .My neighbor did his this way and the guy I bought the POR 15 from said that it would work fine.It came out great.
