Question Hood struts in Pigeon Forge pic

Did anyone get a closer look at this hood strut setup? Is it just the stock hood hinges with a gas strut instead of springs? Where did the other end of the strut mount?

Thanks,

Kenneth

Looks as if he removed the springs and added the prop rod on one end of the hinge and the other on the inside fender edge, clever engineering, I like the idea of no springs.

Wouldn't that take 2 people to open the hood? Or are my arms just that short? If he used shocks I would think they wouldn't last long as all, Thats one thing I hate about Camaros, shocks always go out

I can't tell but it looks like it is just a straight rod, no shock. I guess if it were a gas strut it would open easy.

I saw that and assumed it was a strut. Sorry for the tiny pic but here is another example.

XXL....If my memory serves me right, the lower side was just bolted to the outer fender. I could see behind it, but it looked like he had a hole with a bolt on the inner side (similar to the washer bottle bolts) .

the pic brad2 posted looks very similar to the thirdgen camaro/firebird hood hinge. the placement of the strut is in a different spot but operates the same. i don't think i wold do that. those stuts suck and they are a pain to change sometimes. if you have one that hangs up, then it ruins the both and have to be replaced. looks cool, but is a pain to deal with sometimes.

Thanks. Seems like a reasonable way to mount it. I may have to play around with that idea a bit. (As if I didn't already have too many projects going on at once .)

The original was in one of the Pigeon Forge pics threads. I just snagged it from there and did the mod to it.

I took a pic of that truck. I blew up the strut on the oposite side and it looks like a shock. I did not save the pic I had blown up but here is the full size pic.
