Bed Removal
How exactly do you get to the nuts underneath the frame rail when you remove the bed? And do you use an impact gun because I don't really see a way to get up in the frame rail with one. So what have you all done when removing the bolts? Thanks.

Re: Bed Removal
Mine is a 1985 also. They were so rusty I ended up cutting them with a torch.

Re: Bed Removal
Yeah that will be my last resort, I would prefer to keep the bolts intact if I can.

Re: Bed Removal
I used a regular socket and a swivel extension - or just a regular box end wrench.
Also - a couple of them might have corresponding holes in the frame rails - you can feed your extension through the hole, put the socket on one end and the breaker bar on the other, and then get a straight shot. K

Re: Bed Removal
I've always cleaned the threads, use a cheater to brake loose, then air ratchet them off. The ones that don't come off, cut'em.

Re: Bed Removal
My problem is not how to do it, but how to get to it with tools.

Re: Bed Removal
Okay the green is the bed floor, the black is the frame, the red is the bolt, and the blue is the nut. How do you get tools up into the black area underneath the blue nut? Hope this helps.

Take and put a breaker bar with a socket and break them loose.

Re: Bed Removal
clean the threads the best u can , small wire brush and some PB blaster. if you skip this step the nut may start to bind up at about half way off.....you then run the risk of rounding out the square hole in the bed the bolts set in.......no fun after that..

Re: Bed Removal
PB blaster and a wire brush is going to be your best friend clean the threads of the bolts good and soak them up good with some PB blaster then use a breaker bar(preferably the longer the better) just remeber leverage is your friend. Also don’t forget about removing the wiring harness going to the tail lights, filler neck, and there might be a ground strap at the filler neck. then your ready to remove the bed, grab a 4x4 post and cut it to length so it can lay between the bed sides near the middle of the bed an that gives you a good place to hook a cherry picker and pick up the bed, or you could get about 6 guys and that will be plenty to pick up the bed if you don’t have a cherry picker

Re: Bed Removal
You could cut a hole in the frame then just run the socket straight up to the nut.
