69 chevy c20 lug nut help

Hey guys, I got a 69 chevy c20 and the PO said he put brakes from a 71-72 on it if Im not mistaken. Today when I went to take the tire off I noticed it looked like the front lug nuts were bigger than the back so I checked and sure enough it was. We're looking at getting new lug nuts so Im trying to figure out what size these things are and what year there from. Im also looking at getting front brakes sense the brakes are on there way out, are the disk brakes from the 71-72 the same or are they different? Im not new to trying to figure out what the PO did to this truck so this is no surprise

I went through the same thing. Mine were 9/16-18 I believe.

Pre disc brake lug nuts (before 1971) were 1/2". 1971 and later were 9/16" until they went metric. So, your backs are likely 1/2" and fronts 9/16". Other than possibly a couple minor changes I THINK the 71s and 72s use the same replacement parts for the brakes. Someone else can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong (I'd like to know for sure).

Re: 69 chevy c20 lug nut help

I too believe that the 71-72 c-20 brakes are the same. When I bought my 71 the PO said it was a 72 and I registered it as such. I only figured out about 2 years ago that it was a 71 when I read in a thread about the rear view mirror mount being diffrent on the 71. Anyway long story I put brakes for 72 on it more than once before I knew that.

Looks correct to me, was also put in an easy to understand fashion and directed right at the point of original post. Only thing I can add or think of different between 71 & 72 disc were the outer hoses and how they attached to the caliper. Its not really an issue today because there is only one style of hoses and reman calipers available now (to the best of my knowledge), the hoses style & calipers have to mate/match with one another. Re: 69 chevy c20 lug nut help

You'll need 9/16-18 thread lug nuts to fit the front studs. Whatever you get will also need to be appropriate for the wheels you are running. Are the wheels lug-centric (the lug nuts center the wheel... uses a tapered lug nut) or hub centric (the hub centers the wheel)? You'll also need to know the degrees of taper if lug centric. For example, the factory Chevy 3/4 ton wheels are lug centric and use a 60 degree taper. If in doubt, contact the wheel manufacturer or take your current lug nuts to a knowledgeable wheel or parts dealer and tell him what you need. There are also many sellers on eBay.
