Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
Tsup fella.
I have a 79 c10 short box. when i bought it was lowered with some 15x6 Daytons on the front. I thought the Daytons were to narrow and were causing to feel funny. but when i drove the truck onto ramps and looked at the springs i see the stock springs and i thing the previous owner cut the spring... and the shocks are maxed out...NO WONDER THE TRUCK TOPS OUT EVERY WERE ON ANY BUMP OR DIP :/ I'm looking into buying actual drop springs and shocks. what would be the best springs and shock combo to go with. I was looking at the summit racing ones but they are back ordered . so I'm gonna go another route. any input as appreciate. BTW looking for a 3" drop . |

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
If you want a 3in drop you need to get some stock springs, stock shocks, and a 2.5in drop spindles for a 2.5in drop OR get a 1in drop spring, 2.5in drop spindles, and stock shocks for a 3.5in drop. You don't want a 3in spring drop because you will run into alignment issues and 3in drop spindles will rub on most 15in wheels.

oh. Judging by the way you are talking. I think I'm looking for a bigger drop than 3 inches...
this is how the truck sits... I'm looking to keep almost the same drop [maybe an inch higher]. but I want it done right. [proper springs with rate and shocks ] I'm not too sure what kind of spindles were used, but they seem to work for this drop. what should i use to get this stance ? thanks |

This is how mine turned out 3'' drop spindels and 1'' coil springs for a 4 inch drop in the front. With a flip kit in the back which gave me about 5 inch drop i hope this helps.

I find it hard to believe your shocks are bottoming out if they are stock shocks. I would just about bet the bumpstops are still on the lower a-arms and that is what you are hitting. That or someone has switched shocks.

From the pic it looks like about a 4in drop. Can you take a pic of your front suspension with the weight of the truck on it?

You still have the bumpstop base, thats what is hitting, you need to cut it off of the lower control arms. I also notice your tires lean in with inside tire wear with no alignment bolt left for adjustment.

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
just trim up that bumpstop and order some drop shocks from summit. They are ground force brand. Truck is fairly low man id look into getting the 3 inch drop spindles even though you might have rub issues with 15s but nothing a grinder cant help. Then order some two inch coils. that will give you 5 up front. Whats been done in the rear? any pictures?

oh i see. and how can you tell the camber adjustment bolt is out? where is that located.
Hown can i tell what kind of Spindles it has on now? I can take pictures of the rear suspension tomorrow. I'm not sure how it was lowered... I'm really new to these trucks, been lurking but still barely know anything. |

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
the two upper studs on the control arm are for camber caster adjustment. And thers no further room to add shims. By looking at that im sure you dont have drop spindles. You can tell if you have them by looking at the location of spindle the actual part that the bearing go on, but look from the back side.

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
I think spindles and springs are the best way to go, and the correct way to do it. I tend to stay away from 3" spindles, only because it puts the lower control arms damn close to the ground. That is just my personal preference though.
I had them on a truck for a long time, but I did end up catching the arms on a set of metal plates. Anyways, I would consider the 2.5"... not much, but a little better and gets you that extra .5" of clearance. Just my thoughts. |

Dead civic, ill get you a pic of a stock spindle and a drop spindle tonight so you can compare to what you have, but I am guessing you don't currently have drop spindles.

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
your coils are cut way too much, If you run a 2.5 spindle and a 1 drop spring you will sit where you want it, plus then you can put the rubber bump stop back on. Instead of hitting steal on steal... You can also trim the rubber a bit to allow more movement. plus then it will be easier for the alignment guy to get you back into spec and make a driver out of it, instead of a tire wearing bear to drive....
Another option is to get a set of stock coils and cut one coil off. should be around a 2 drop. but may be more then you want with the spindles |

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
Tsup fellas. Today i took a good look at my Truck. and i notice the Driver side strut was not attatched to the Frame.
So i decided I'd go out and replace those worn out shocks with Lifetime Warranty Monroe shocks from O'rillyes. my springs have a a good 7 coils on them. How many coils do the stock ones have. I'm trying to figure out how many coils were cut... any input is appreciated. thanks.

Re: Truck Drop Questioin. what spring and shocks to use. for the front.
3" spindles w/1-coil removed from the original springs up front. Flip kit w/drop shackles out back. 215-70-15 fronts (26.85") & 255-70-15 rears (29.05"). There's less than .500" between the factory height bumpstop & the x-member....
