Buddy buckets + stereo install??

I'm looking for ideas where the center console of the buddy buckets was used for mounting a stereo.

I'm looking to keep the uncut factory dash in my K10 and install a radio delete plate. I can't install a stereo in the glovebox due to the shallow glovebox that came with my Vintage Air kit.

I tried doing a search, but didn't have any luck.

Has anyone done this before? Any pics?

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

there is always the undermount dash option... or you could put the same box in the buddy buckets...

best bet might be cutting the front panel of the buddy seat console so a single din stereo faces forward and into the shifter... would be nearly invisible and a remote could always control it...

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. The under dash mount is out of the question. I'm trying to keep the stereo hidden. Your other suggestion has crossed my mind before and might be the most logical solution. I even thought about building a small box and mounting it under the driver or passenger seat frame and then covering it in carpet to help it blend in. A wireless remote is must as well.

Hope all is going well with you.

Any other ideas?

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

I think installing one of these boxes in the buddy seat box is best... totally hidden, only issue would be the remote functioning...

I was planning on the glove box for mine.. check crustchfield.com for good prices plus they come with wiring harness'

Most come with Bluetooth for hands free calling...

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

With that mount it looks like you'd have to mount in all the way in the back of the console in order to insert/remove a cd.

The more I think about it the more I'm like the idea of mounting it in the front of console.

I've bought from Crutchfield before, so I'll probably hit them up in the future. Them or either http://www.sonicelectronix.com/

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

You're right. I don't even listen to them now.

And yes, I'm behind the technology curve. Heck, I just got my first smart phone, an i-phone 4, and only because my company provided it.

I guess I'll just cut the front of the console and install the stereo there. Then I'll build a small box that'll mount inside the front half of the console to hide the wires and back of the stereo.

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

too easy... get one with bluetooth that's iphone compatible (most should be). Download the pandora and iheartradio apps and have fun. My phone automatically synchs with my stereo in my ford, music stops when the phone rings and hand free is very nice.

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

if you looking for clean and hidden, just do an ipod or mp3 player connected to an amp to power your speakers. dont have to cut the dash or buddy bucket center console.

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

I agree with what the others are saying. Kicker just came out with a neat controller. It even has a small power amp built in if you don't need it loud.http://www.kicker.com/pxi502

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

after having a bluetooth stereo in my truck I don't think I could go back to plugging the iphone into anything... sounds silly but it's so nice just leaving the phone in your pocket and going... this truck won't be a daily driver so I guess you could make an exception...

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

would an FM broadcaster work for you
you would need a stock radio for sure, but it's what i'm going with for now in the 79
(no cuts)
bought one with bluetooth but returned it cause
bluetooth didn't play my music from the phone, and it's display was blue(red theme here)
but this thing does music and turns it down to answer phone for $20.00 on sale $12.
(one has the lighter plug removed for a perm install in the 78)
My 78 radio, it's usb plug charges the phone, and plays music threw the radio,
not the ipod, cause in ipod it only mutes the sound, you still have to pick it up to answer
the "hanger" broadcasts it and turns down the music,to answer hands free...

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

I think that FM broadcasters (modulators) are terrible for sound quality. Bluetooth or hard wired is the best bet.

Re: Buddy buckets + stereo install??

Shannon ,Im planning on hiding my stereo in my buddybucket console as you described and I plan on using a stereo such as what a friend with a Harley used with flip down front for an IPOD even though I dont know how to load music onto an IPOD .Im sure one of my Foster boys will educate me on how to do that when the time comes if my truck is ever done. My friends system also has a remote and is quite loud even on the Harley. Somewhere I have the box his stereo came in so as I can find one similar to it.
