55-59 Windshield made in USA??

Hey guys,
I wanted to know where i can get a brand new 55-59 front windshield that is made in the USA? Everywhere windshield i find seems to be a repo made in China or Japan but none made in the US. Does anybody here know who would sell US made shields?? Preferably on the west coast so shipping would be so much. Thanks in advance.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hey thanks Jim,
I know i said "on the West Coast" but this is actually for my dad's truck and he is from Minnesota so if he is going to order a windshield from some where far away.... I know he would want it to be from Minnesota! lol! I'll check them out.

Don't get me started >.< Such a shame, but mad props to you for trying to find parts made at home. I do the same, usually not too hard, but some items...

Ogre, No offense, but i think if we all had this "just be happy" settle for what you get kind of attitude....we might as well start fixing up Toyota's & Nissan's. I say "don't be happy" till you get MADE IN THE USA!

Re: 55-59 Windshield made in USA??

I have a Chevy crate engine made in Mexico assembled from parts from all over the world, few repair panels are made in the USA, and if we keep cutting up existing trucks to repair the old ones we will run out someday. So its a nice wish to buy Made in the USA, but reality says you may wait a long time to enjoy your truck.

Again, this is that "Settle for what's out there" attitude....There are so many trucks out there that are either so far gone they can not be saved but make great parts donors or so many US fabricators that can "fab" you up the parts you need. If we start using these junk "Made elsewhere" parts on our trucks...then aren't we gonna start running out of "real trucks" as well?

Same way they repo parts in other countries, we should be able to do the same here.....keep the $$$ in the USA! Build "REAL TRUCKS".. Just my .02 cents.

Re: 55-59 Windshield made in USA??

I would think you could find made in America glass if you are willing to pay the price. The big problem is that companies like PPG want runs of product in the thousands of pieces and not by the tens or hundreds.

Check with the old established glass shops in the area rather than the quickie slap it in and go places.

One of the local places that is noted for being a bit more expensive advertises that they only use oem spec glass.

Define your interpretation of "Made in the USA"?

Last I checked Toyota Tacoma's are built in Fremont, CA. Tundras were originally built in Indiana and I think are now built in San Antonio. At one point the Tundra used the highest percentage of USA parts of ANY truck sold in the USA. Nissan's I believe are still all built in Smyrna, TN.

So it boils down to whether you want to support American workers or American Corporate profits.

Members of this forum? who said anything about members of this forum?
I thought we were talking about MY windshield...I just prefer installing a shield that's made in the US rather than some cheap Chinese windshield that's all. I use to work at a glass shop and so i know the difference. (of quality) Again, No offense Ogre...cheer up man!

Are we still talking about classic trucks and classic truck parts here? Because that's what i was referring to. If i was talking about Toyota tundra's, i don't think i would have to look very far for a windshield.

and by the way, my definition of Made in the USA as far as classic parts goes is....N.O.S or O.E.M PARTS....Not reproduction parts. Chinese windshields are not O.E.M.

You can also say it boils down to whether you want to support foreign corporate profits or American corporate profits. Whatever keeps the most money in the USA is the way I prefer to go.
