Calling all 9" rear guys

Has anyone adapted ls1 brakes to a 9" rear? I picked up a 9" for my 59 and have a set of ls1 brakes on the shelf I would like to use. I will also be installing ls1 brakes on my front subframe. I know some people out there has installed ls1 rear brakes on a 9".

Thanks,
Eric B.

Re: Calling all 9" rear guys

Found out ls1 brakes won't work unless i get new axles... Looks like I will be going with an aftermarket disk brake kit. Found one that would let me use the 5x4.75 lugs. axles already drilled for that and 5x4.5. I'll just need to move my studs to the 5x4.75 holes.

Re: Calling all 9" rear guys

I found an excellent rear brake kit on fleabay. I have a 9" Torino style. The whole kit includes, 79-81 Firebird Rotors Slotted and Drilled, GM Metric Caddy Emergency brake calipers, all brackets, all cables, hoses, bolts, etc. for $299.99 plus $50 shipping (very heavy). The have kits for small and large old style too. All the rotors and calipers are zinc coated as well.

This is what I'm using. I already had the Rotors, GM Metric Caddy Emergency brake calipers all I had to buy is the caliper brackets and have the bolt pattern redriled in the axles since they were 5 on 5.5.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Re: Calling all 9" rear guys

1959Chev, I bought the kit from Speedway motors for my panel. I am cheap so I bought the weld on bracket kit instead of using the bolt on kit. It uses 2 piece rotors with GM metric calipers with the emergency brake. I bought the brackets that has the gussets built in.
