Thumbs up Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

Has anybody ever put Hids on a 74 round eyed chevy?
I would like to have some on my square body
I've been googling but havent came up with nothing...

(On a side note since where talking about headlights)
I was able to fix my headlights on my round eyed
1st- Check your ground cable
2nd- Check your light switch/dimmer switch(the one on the dash by wipers)
3rd- Check your low beam/ High beam switch on the floor( this also acts like a on and off switch, I guess)
I took off the ground cable and made sure it had a good connection, instead of trying to get the old ones to work just buy them( I highly recommend it)
For both parts at Autozone Was $23 dollars, ended up being the switch on the floor
But atleast I know their new and will work for a while

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

not hard to do. Get on ebay and find some Round housings that take a H4 bulb and fit your truck(im not sure the housing size..7in maybe..Idk) then order a set of Hids with H4 bulbs, install and wire it up and your done.

You can find them alot cheaper but this is what 10 seconds of looking found me..Note these are 7in housings
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Summit-89925...#ht_1393wt_905

When I did my 85 I paid $25 for Glass housings and $14 for H4 6000k bulbs. I already had some ballasts sitting around.

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

Those are pretty cool. Not bad for $150 shipped to Canada. I remember 5 years ago when you would pay that much just for a set of Bosch ballasts, then another $200 for bulbs... Pretty cheap these days. I kinda like the halos too. Doesnt suit my old shop truck style but would look cool on a nicer c10.

You gotta watch ebay tho some stuff listed as a hid isn't really hid tho.Honestly a good h4 swap with the relays is more then enough light for a city truck at night.

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

I know
It that how I dont have a lot of cash at the moment
I wanted ti change my front end.to the square 80's, but low on cash
So I decide I'll keep my 74 round eyed front end and just buy some nice headlights
To make the front pop
I think after I get tires, carb kit done, and brakes
I'm going to look into those halo lights

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

There are a few threads on the forum about HID upgrades. I like the upgrade to the newer Jeep headlamps then adding a HID kit to them. There are severl upgrade light kits available but the cheaper lights dont give much of an upgrade. Look for a bixenon kit or at the newer jeep lights like in this thread.

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

Just get a HB2/H4 lens for them. Hella Vision plus #002395301. Also install a relay so you don't burn out your headlight switch with the increased power consumption. Did this on my 77 and it greatly increased output and now I can see at night.

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

I put some on my 74. Ill add a day and night shot. I like them way better than oe. Big difference! You really notice the lines on the road more and the street signs reflect from a greater distance. Hids come with a ballast and all the good set ups offer a relay and harness that will power the lights from the battery and will use your original light plug for signal only. Its wise to use the harness. They seem to work better with it. I also bought the single beam bulbs aswell. As bright as they are you really dont need high beams. My opinion.. 6000k - 8000k bulbs have the best color and brightness

There are only a couple of manufacturers of actual REAL projectors.

So please be aware that these are fake and waste of money. Especially the black ones since we all know black is not as reflective as chrome which I why headlights use chrome right?

If any body wants real projectors I know only two outfits that produce real ones

If anything I would suggest moderators put out a service bulk item on these fake projectors. They should be brought to court for false advertising

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

hey guys look what i got for my birthday
I like them alot
you only have to do a few modifications to your vehicle
-cut wires for the halo and little bulb
-cut 1/4 inch of the plastic that connects to the light bulb (l_l) <---- the housing
-cut some of the the metal from the headlight housing, the bracket behind the headlight

I wired the halo ring to the turn light in front
this is what happened
They halo light turns on when the blinker is turned on( thats how i took the pic)
but thats when the headlights are off,
but when you turn the headlights on the halo ring turns off, when you turn the headlights off there off too, but have to engage turn signal to turn on
when the headlights are on, and you engage the turn signal it dosent come on
Am i doing something wrong? do i need a relay or something?
post your opinions on my new lights

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

Run both leads for the halo's to your side marker lights.
They'll come on and stay on with your parking lights and headlights.

BUT!!!!

When you hit the turn signals, they'll flash alternately with the front turnsignals just like your side markers do.
I did this to my outer clearance lights on the top of my Suburban

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

I would wire them to the parking lights but you want to use the signal wire that is for the parking lamps and not the turn signal if you dont want them to blink. Should be three wires on the parking lamp pigtails. Ground, turnsignal, and parking light.

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

They look nice
One question
My new headlights are foggy on the inside
Why is that?
My new lights have a little blue bulb at the bottom that can be
Taken out, is humidity or whatever getting in it?

Re: Hid's on a 74 Chevy?

Yes, you have humidity in them. Just take a small drill bit and drill a hole at the bottom of the back side.

Are they LED HALO's? If so did you try reversing the wires when you hooked them into your side markers to see if they would work either way?
