Re: Aftermarket Headlights
I have not used these but I ran across this thread while researching a retrofit for my 91 sub front lights. It's a little more involved and more expensive but with good results. Check it out. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...n-86-Silverado

What I ended up doing was buying a set of European headlights and putting in the highest legal wattage bulbs 55/60w. I also relayed the whole thing and made it so a 4 lights light up during high beam use. It definitely made a big difference and these Euro lights focus the beam a lot better than the stock setup. I get an excellent cut off as well. I might try putting in a set of HID bulbs and see how it works for this. But then, it's no longer legal.

Re: Aftermarket Headlights
Edahall, do you have any pics of your setup. I have not bought any parts yet. I just saw the threads while researching for my TBSS. But I would love to have projectors in 91 front end.

Re: Aftermarket Headlights
The posted ebay link are NOT real projectors. Either get Euro style lights or have real projector retrofit done. Those in the ebay link will have very poor lighting!
My Sub's lights are like Edahall's. I don't know what brand he's running.....but I have autopal lights off of ebay with a set of 90w/100w H4's in the main lights and the high beams are 100w H1's. Only the mains light up in low beam, but all four light up in high beam. I have the clear, non coated bulbs. They are yellow, but a very bright yellow. Also, because of them being yellow, no one even questions whether they are legal wattage.

My setup looks stock except the headlights say Hella H4 on lenses. Apparently, when these trucks were shipped to Europe, they were required to have these Hella headlights retrofitted to confirm with European standards. Apparently, the stock headlights did not have a good enough pattern / cut off to meet the standards. So a batch of these headlights were made for the retrofit. At the time that I bought them several years ago, they were nearly $180 per pair and there were just a few of them still available. From what I had gathered, they were the best you could do for these trucks and still remain legal. I just have 55/60 watt bulbs in them but they made a huge difference. They're at least as good as my wife's Lincoln with HID's. They don't light up the road quite as well right in front of you but they really project the light out at a farther distance without blinding other drivers. |
