Blazer 3rd Seat??
I currently have a 72 Suburban and a 71 pick up but was thinking about getting a 67-72 Blazer. I have not looked at one in person and one of the big things that I was wondering about before I finally decide to look for one and buy one is will a third seat fit in one? I have seen 3rd seats in a 80 modal blazer but never in a 67-72 one. I have 4 children so I would have to have the 3rd seat.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
I think you could fit one, but it wouldn't be comfortable. You'd have to move the factory rear seat forward and put the 3rd seat all the way to the back. It would also be very difficult to get to the 3rd row.
If you do it, it will be the first I know of.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
yep your burb is your best bet. if you could manage fitting your whole family in a blazer it'd be uncomfortable at best

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
Well the 2 wheel drive Suburban that we have is my wife's daily driver. What I need is a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get me to work when it snows and to get the family to remote camping areas. Will be moving to Utah in a few months! I would only carry my family in it for family outings that required 4 wheel drive and as a back up to the suburban.
I was hoping that maybe some one has added a 3rd seat in there blazer and had photos.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
If its an auto you could put a bench in the front. Maby fit in a 60/40 so it will flip forward so the can get back ther easily

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
The front bench seat idea (60-40) sounds like a cool idea and would seat another small person. You would also need another 60-40 bench for the center seat (or something that moves out of the way) so people could access the 3rd seat you want to install, otherwise there would be no getting back there in a reasonable fassion...
Or sell the blazer and find yourself a 4x4 suburban would be my first and foremost suggestion. I'm actually on the hunt for a 4x4 suburban myself to do the very thing you are planning,,,,outdoor excursions with room to sleep in the back |

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
Or move the existing rear bench to the third row and install two buckets in the center row. Would make it easier getting to the back row

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
I kind of did this in my blazer years ago. I put 2 80s suburban third row seats in the back facing each other, one the back against the tailgate, the other the back against the back of the front seat, it worked ok but I didn't really have any cargo space and I was always worried if I was rear ended the person in the very back would get hurt. Other that that it was pretty fun because I also had a Cadillac bench seat in the front and could fit 9 people seat belted in.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
I figure either way nothing will be in factory mounting holes since will have to move middle seat forward a touch. Wonder what six buckets would cost to buy and recover

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
I have the interior out of my 72' now and a whole bunch of seats sitting beside it ( buckets and benches) I can put a couple arrangements in when I get home and snap some pictures and rough measurements. I will post later this evening

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
If you are crafty you could figure a way to put two benches both facing in from the wheelwells. may have to raise the seats up some or maybe fab up some low profile wheelwells but it may be worth a look and you would probably be the only one that has it.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
hope you don't mind but my 78 is close to that style
i'm wanting to put one of my "jump" seats in the middle in the front from my 88 burb.BUT When it was on the road i looked into getting a seat moved , because the custom third row was mounted on top of the floor , putting in the floor seemed logical but it has to be inspected DOT approved if I do move or install a different belt (never mind it came ordered without belts 2nd and 3rd row) If I don't i can be sued if somebody gets hurt

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
You can always be sued if someone gets hurt. Its how it works. I dont think that modding your vehicle makes it need to be dot certified. If it does this is the first I have heard of it.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
First picture is where rear seat sits from factory
Second picture is with seat moved forward to give about a foot of space between front buckets and the now "middle seat

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
Third row would require you to almost touch the back glass to have a foot of room between seats. Keep in mind that 3rd row will have reduced head clearance due to the top lowering down at the hatch. This configuration would require short kids in back and they would have to climb over seat either way. here are 5 pics in no particular order.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
Or you could put them back to back like my dad's old 69 olds wagon with the moon roof. Sorry about the glare could not get good pictures of this one.

Re: Blazer 3rd Seat??
Lastly you could put buckets in the middle and turn them either direction. EIther way you put them in there you have about a foot of floor space. Iam just shy of 6' and 240 lbs. I sat in every configuration I posted pics of. I fit in every one but I will be the first one to say I AM DRIVING . The back two rows would be ok for short drives with most anyone or longer ones with smaller kids but either way I AM DRIVING.
If you need anymore pics or measurements let me know & I will see what I can get you

I'm sure it can be done ,and it looks like it would fit.But when I cut the roof off my 78, got checked out quite a lot by cops, belts left in stock position do not need inspection, moved or modded they do, at least here in Ont.Ca Told my insurance is void / not covered when belts are moved and not inspected From what I remember even putting racing belts in needs inspection, if legal at all Posted via Mobile Device
