Looking at 1969 4X4
Went and looked at this rig today. When built it was set up and used for mud. Drivers Side wheel well needs some attention and it is showing some surface rust on doors and rockers. He said it was on an 86 full size frame and has 8" lift. The holes where 4X4 and shifter were hacked up pretty good. What do you guys think, the 86 frame bothers me a bit, was wanting a real nice rig eventually this is a nice 10 footer but needs some TLC. Was wanting a second opinion.
1969 Chevy 4x4 This truck performs just as good as it looks 383 stroker, sportsman 2 heads, 10.1 compression hypertectic pistons, balanced, pink rods arp fasteners roller rockers, performer rpm air gap intake, holley double pumper, reed cam, electric fuel pump, nv 465 heavy duty 4 speed, 205 transfer case, 8 inch lift , solid u joints in drivelines, traction bars, dana 60 front 4.56 gears posi unit, 35 spline outer axle shafts, 14 bolt rear with detroit locker 4.56 gears, crossover steering, 4 inch custom cowl induction hood, gusseted rear hitch for pulling, 5 inch tach with shift lite and oil pressure warning lite, super swamper tsl boggers 38.5x15x15 on black rims, also included a set of super swamper tsl 36x12.5x16.5 on aluminum rims, everything is new or rebuilt, street legal, come take a look. The truck is over 40 years old has some rust around left rear wheel well and surface rust on bottom of both doors. |

Are you looking for a daily driver, resto or what? And what is he asking? I'm a 4x4 guy and to me the 86 chassis is a deal killer. I like an origional operating truck for the most part, some mods are cool but a different chassis to me takes the character out of the classic truck. There are upgrades to the 69 chassis that can be done with parts from 71-72's. That's just my 2 cents though. The big lift kit doesn't hold alot of value to ME but that's just me. If I were looking at this thing $3000 would be about all I would pay, maybe even less.

Would not be a daily driver but driven and used as a truck all summer long. Wanted something not too rusty that I could use and restore as I go. Have a few projects around the house I need a truck for always liked this style and not wild about trading my trailblazer ss for a silvy. The one issue I have is I am already trying to finish my 79 TA.

agree. if you want an 86 chassis, buy an 86 truck. There would be a little too much "frankentruck" going on in there for my liking. If you like a 67-72. which you probably do - then I'd wait for one that is a little more original. One exception - if you're also buying it to go mudding and off-roading, then all bets are off. Go for it if you like it. Price dependent of course...
EIDT: Oops - I think we simo-posted... After reading your 2nd post, if you want to drive it around and restore it - I'd pass. |

I had similar feelings on the frame didn't know if I was silly. I am looking at 6500 for the truck.

$6500 would be a deal killer for me.I don't like them Frankenstiened that much and it certainly would not make a decent DD.I think it's only use would be as a base for a mud truck.

The fact that it was a mudder and there is a shift light on the column tells me that this truck has been beaten pretty good too.

That is pretty much what my truck was like when i bought it. It was not until long after i bougt that i figured out that my frame was actually a 78. If I were to look again i would quickly pass up anything that was as modified as much as it is requird to fit a 67-72 on a later model chassis. If you are seriously thinking of rebuilding it you will never have a something that can be rturned to stock. I am not necessarily concerned about being stock but but at some point you may want to resell and this will dramatically affect resale. something to consider when looking at such a large investment.

Thanks for the feed back, I will keep looking. Hard to find what you are looking for but I guess that is half the fun. Hoping to find a manual SWB 4x4 that's not a basket case but willing to consider LWB or auto. Just haven't found right truck at right price. Prolly passed on a few I shoulda snagged in hindsight....
