Suburban overhead console in a crewcab?

I've got an overhead console out of a '90 Suburban that I was thinking of putting in my '77 Crew Cab. I removed the console an mounting bracket this weekend and test fitted it into my crew cab, but made the following observations:

1: I noticed when the console is mounted that there is a gap of about 1.5" from the top of the console to the roof panel. I know that the headliner will take up some of that, but will it take up 1.5"? Which leads into observation 2...

2: I noticed that the Suburban does not have an inner roof panel whereas the Crew Cab does. Presumably because the Crew Cab was available without a headliner, where the Suburban always had a headliner, thus negating the need for a double-walled roof. One would assume that since the console mounting bracket is mounted to the roof "bows", or supports, that the double-walled roof panel would be a moot point.

I guess it comes down the following:

1. Has anyone installed said console into a Crew Cab?
2. Will the headliner take up the gap between the console and the roof?

As for filling the gap, I'd think you could place some strips of foam rubber around the parimeter of the console between the roof and the liner to cause the liner to conform and fill/hide the gap.

We mounted a Suburban console in my '77 Crew cab, but have yet to install the headliner to check the gap you're talking about. Once all the interior work begins - if there is any "extra" gap, I'm sure any experienced interior guy could correct it. They're already going to be recovering the exterior portion of mine with leather anyhow.

That's how mine turned out, too. I can't imagine that a double-walled CC roof would be too terribly different from a single skinned Sub.

I put a console in my CCSB just like that. I didn't get to putting a headliner in before I traded it off. Like Dave said, I figured it wouldn't be too hard to get the headliner shimmed down to cover the gap.
I'm planning on putting one in my new crew.
I thought about cutting keyholes in the inner sheet metal for the front console tabs to fit in. Then you wouldn't need to use the mounting bracket (especially since I don't have a bracket).
Or cutting the front tabs off of the console and using screws front and rear to mount it.
