New guy with a '66 stepside

I did some trading with my dad for his 66 stepside. My dad bought the truck from the original owner back when I was in college and it's always been one of my favorite trucks he's had, so it's pretty special to me that now it's mine.

I sold my 1970 Ford Bronco a couple months ago, and this weekend my parents brought the 66 down. From the quick VIN lookup I did a while back, it's one of the few 66's that was assembled in the Baltimore factory. Hoping to see if i can figure out where at in production it was (if that's possible)... Original wood bed with Oct. 66 date stamp on it so that kinda makes me thing it was near the end? Not sure when they stopped production on the 66's. Everything is original aside from the motor ('67 327), drop springs and the front fenders. Would really like to get the original 6 cylinder back from the guy my dad sold it to. Still have the original fenders with the typical rust in the bottom. Overall, a very solid truck though.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside

There is a VIN decoder here, just have to search for it. My 63 short bed step side was also built in Baltimore. Congrats on the new truck and welcome. If you get stumped decoding the VIN, just ask and most of us here can walk you through it.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside

Thanks for the welcome and the info on the VIN decoded. Gonna work on more pics when I get time. Hopefully soon!

Not sure on all the plans...gonna keep it pretty much as original as I can and just enjoy driving it. If I do any major mods, disc brakes are high on the list.

Welcome.

It always has a special feeling when you get a family 'hand-me-down'.

My uncle has my Grandpa's old 65 4x4.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside

glad ya'll like it!

mr anderson...that's the plan...cruise downtown and out to the beaches w/ my wife. can't wait! give me a yell if you ever get back to the area.

this is probably a separate thread, but what is a good exhaust setup for my 327? Currently I have two straight pipes coming off the manifolds

good sounding muffler? everybody running dual exhausts? i like the idea of running 2 into 1 setup..anybody do this? looking for a nice tone that's not too obnoxious.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside

Muffler(s) depends on just what sound you want and how loud. Just an idea, I would run dual 2-1/4" exhaust tubing on a 327. A lot of the '90's trucks ran 2-1/4" pipe from the manifolds back to a dual inlet muffler with a 2-1/2 or 3" outlet. There are quite a few aftermarket mifflers for those trucks. I know Magnaflow makes one.
