engine drive vs. remote compressor

I have a 1969 gmc, just installed porterbuilt stage 1 front and stage 2 rear basic kit, and now looking at air managment. I want to air out at the shows or the burger joint and air up to take it home. what are the pros/cons of an engine driven vs. remote compressor? this is my first adventure into air ride so pardon the lack of knowledge. thanks.

Re: engine drive vs. remote compressor

The 2 pros of running an EDC are faster fill times and no amp draw to run...I can't really think of any others as the main reason it's done is the faster fill times alone.

The downfalls of the EDC are that it needs to be oiled, the oil must be filtered out of the system, the engine must be running for it to work, it typically takes fab work to get one installed and lastly...it's pretty darn ugly under the hood (if you go with a York).

90% or more people will be happy running 2 electric compressors to fill a 5 gallon tank.

I run an EDC. only because its quiet. Im running a converted a/c compressor with an oiling system. electric compressors running is super annoying.

I like remote better easy to hide if you run 2 if one dies you still got air just takes longer.Engine driven if the compressor dies or locks up your kinda out of luck if your tank is empty. To some remote are loud but people like me who love a loud exhaust you'll never hear it.

Re: engine drive vs. remote compressor

really appreciate the input, i have an old york laying around, after the education think i will try it first, going to fab up something where i can mount it low, opposite the power steering pump. that thing is ugly!

Re: engine drive vs. remote compressor

I had a electric 440 Viair pump that I was going to put in as a back up...but with the lack of room in my blazer, I didn't end up running it. I did plumb in a schreader valve at my license plate that acts as both a fill point if something does happen to my pump as well as a water release.
