1991 Crew Cab 14 bolt question

Heres the short of it. I bought my 91 CC and someone had a taken the ring and pinion/ locker from it. I bought a axle from a guy that had about 3000 miles. He had bought it new from Boyce (they deal in military axles) It had a 4:10 with a locker in it. The housing had spring mounts welded on an angle for a lifted Blazer. So I removed the gears etc from it and installed it into my housing. I am also re-using the differential bearings, but a new pinion support bearing.
My questions are
1- Do I need to install a new crush sleeve on the pinion gear
2- Can I install the shafts prior to having my backlash etc. set

If you didn't disassemble the pinion and the pinion bearing pre-load tests OK with an in-lb torque wrench. You won't need to replace the crush sleeve.
The pinion depth is set by steel gasket shims between the pinion assembly and the axle housing.
The bolt pattern is symmetric so you need be sure to line up the oil passages between the axle housing and pinion assembly.

I did not disassemble the pinion. Hopefully the preload test OK. I read on The 14 Bolt Bible about the oil passages. But thanks for the info anyhow, it would really be a bummer not knowing that.

I'm just curious if it has the finned center section and slip on brake drums? Got pics?

What kind of locker? Detroit? Got pics of it?

The 91 does have the finned center section, but it didnt have the slide on drums? It is a Detroit locker. Ive got pics on my forum "aka oldman"

More questions.... Is there suppose to be a washer before the hub nut? I do not remember one. I torqued my hub nut to 50# but had a very hard time turning the hub. I read somewhere about after installing the outer bearing snap ring to tab the bearing back to seat on the snap ring. It seems like, by torquing the hub nut this would do this on its own. Man this is frustrating the hell of me, seems like 1 step forword and 2 steps back.

Question answered... At a cost of new outer bearings, races and seals. I messed up and put my outer bearings in backwords. And by torqueing them down I ruined the bearings and I am not taking the chance on the races. Another thing that I noticed is that on my hub, 3 of the 8 axle shaft bolt threads are coming through the inner side of the housing. Im not sure if they were over torqued or not. I did have an extra set of hubs with low mileage but I dont want to tell you what I did with them.
As I listen to Talk Radio I feel as wastefull as the freakin people who work for GSA. But atleast I wasted my own $$. Just venting!!

Does it have the 2 nuts with the keyed washer between them?
