Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong, pass side exhaust manifold is cracked. I've undone the bolts from the block, but the top has this square like bolts that will not budge with adjust wrench, also cannot get bolts loose that connect to the exhaust pipes using long 9/16 socket.
Is there a way to get this done without an impact gun? Thanks so much for advice. Also, pass exhaust pipe is twisted under bed of truck now, I know because muffler is crooked. 85 swb 305 v8 Dual exhaust Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
i"ll be doin this later, got my mufflers in
if rusted solid and not being reused, snap off the 9/16 up to the manifolds I will hit the manifold bolt straight on before turning, trying to shock/loosen it a bit when you put new nuts on the exhaust consider brass nuts! they don't rust

Try using PB blaster, make sure it doesn't get into the engine or anything bad like that, or use WD40. then put the wrench on it, and hit it with a rubber mallet

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
Those square like bolts might be pipe plugs used when the air injector tubes are removed.
Might just cut exhaust since its twisted, easier than getting some really stuck bolts that hold the pipe on. |

it's not the "other" temp sending spot? coolant?
does the manifold look like this?

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
That is the location on the square bolt, unlike the pic it has no connections to it. And it is 2 bolts, 1 is thru the first hole on engine, the other is at the back of engine by motor oil dipstick.
My dumb (smartphone) will not let me upload pics to photobucket, or vids to youtube. I will keep trying. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
Its the same location at the top of exhaust manifold, but is not the same thing. The bolt on mine goes from that location into the exhaust manifold hole on engine block. Not to be confused with the six bolts on the exhaust manifold.
These square bolts are the only thing holding the exhaust manifold up, as the six bolts have been removed without trouble. I am thinking this is why it stayed cracked so long, its a pain in the ass to deal with. May end up putting it back. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
That looks like an old plugged air-injection tube. With the flange bolts loose from the exhaust that should just come out. I don't think that is a bolt or has any function at all. You could just cut it off but you risk it falling into the cylinder. If you do cut it off turn the engine over til the exhaust valve is closed. If you take the motor mount bolts loose and lift the engine you may get enough room to pull it straight out. Since your manifold is of no use to you don't worry about hurting it.

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
wedge it from moving...vise grips
couple of nicks/cuts into both sides, with a grinder/ cutting wheel, hammer it , bet it would crack off heck hitting it with a small sledge alone, might crack that

Re: Please, help me with removing pass. exhaust manifold
Sorry for the thread revival, but I am in a pickle.
I have a 72 C-10, 350/350, and one of the nuts on the driver side exhaust mani (manifold to exhaust flange) backed out and fell off. The stud is good. I need dimensions of the nut size. The hex is 9/16", but what thread type? Posted via Mobile Device |
