Looking at buying an 87 nearby. Its a 350 automatic with the original drivetrain. 2wd, all power, working AC. The interior definitely needs an overhaul. The exterior is actually in great shape. No dents dings or rust and paint looks pretty good. Drives pretty well but sounds like it needs new seals which seems to be common and it has a really strong pull to the right which i am hoping an alignment will fix. Not sure on actual mileage on the truck. Any thoughts?

i think that pics would give us all a lot better idea but usually if the interior is worn you can expect the body has been gone over or painted. $3000 seems to be alot of money..at least in my opinion

I wish i had some pictures to upload but i dont. Not sure if it has been repainted or not. The body is in great shape and that seems to be rare. At least from the ones i have looked at. No rust, no dents, no dings. really straight.

3000? WAY too much unless it is in REALLY good shape, including interior. I got my truck with full interior, new paint, as is in my profile picture for 1800

I gave 2k for my 87 when I got it. I drove it home the 20 miles, but started fixing things right away. It was what you'd call all original, everywhere. Only body issue was rusted cab corners. Only interior issue was the falling headliner and the worn out seat fabric.

Deals like those havent been around my area. The interior on this one would need a new dash pad, seat cover and probably carpet. Would look better new at least. Also needs window motors for both sides. Headliner is in good shape.

With the interior shot like you said and the few other things you listed, 3K seems a bit steep IMO.

I was kind of thinking it was a pretty good deal but the above comments have me second guessing now. I have looked at a few. All in the 2500 dollar range. They were absolutely trashed. Rust everywhere, dents, completely trashed interior. I am sure a lot of it has to do with location and availability.

That's a $3k truck all day long where I'm at. You can't buy a rusted out ex-plow truck for $2k here in the salt belt.

That 87 has fuel injection going for it - so that is a big plus, IMO. Assuming all of the fuel injection/electronics are OK (I would have a pro check that out) then I say offer $2500 cash in hand and see what happens. If the seller is firm at $3K then I say buy it. Truly rust free fuel injected trucks are very rare, even in the desert southwest (a lot of trucks came from the rust belt). Any truck that runs and is rust free and not beat to poop is worth $3K out here
Regarding the interior, you can live with that for a long time, then fix up as you go along cheaply. Late model GM truck seats can be had for $250 or so. Headliners can be done locally for $50. Order your own carpeting for another $250.
As I am sure you are aware, these old squares are like any old vehicle - expect to dump a bunch of dough into them if you want a reliable and decent looking ride. The best approach, IMO, is to get a truck that is reliable enough to start every time you turn the key, and not worry to much about the appearance of the truck.
You will hear a lot of guys say: "Bought that truck 15 years ago for $500 and never put a penny in it - doesn't owe me a thing." In my experience, these guys are either drunk, liars, or extremely lucky. Every old vehicle I have owned needed lots of repairs - maybe I am just unlucky

Oh, and that pull to the right, likely suspension work will be needed - I am guessing lower control arm/ball joint - you should be able to see that when it is up on a hoist - see if you can take it to a local brake/tune up/Gooodyear store, etc., for a free safety check up. But like I said, expect to put $$$ in this truck- still - I say go for it - we need more guys here to complain about their pesky truck problems.

Took me months to find mine for 2k and clean/rust free but needs plenty more work than that one. If you get stuck paying 3k for it I wouldnt feel to bad at all. A good spit shine and a drop and you will get compliments all day long I bet. Plus it already has 8" rallys to start.

I agree, 3 Gs is right on. If it's mechanically sound and and body is as good as you state, go for it. Offer the dude 2500 and go from there...

3 grand is fair. I have seen far worse trucks go for more than that. I would just inspect it very well before the deal is done.

Well figure the interior is about 500, low ballin it there, to fix, your at 3500. To be fair lets say it has some engine trouble, maybe another 500...the truck is 25 years old or so. 3 g is steep like the grand canyon! That truck would be lucky to get 2000 where I am

3k Sounds like a good price for a clean fuel injected truck. I know where there is a 80k orignal mile truck super nice orignal truck that the guy wants 10k for. So 3k go for it.

Judging from the comments, i can definitely see that location will play a big part on pricing. Given the picture above, if i were to show you guys one i looked at that the guy was asking 2500 for you would flip. LOL.

Side question, where are some other areas to look for problematic rust? The exterior is easy to look for. Any other hidden areas to pay attentino to? Thanks again for all of the feedback guys.
