what buckets fit best?

hey guys, i've been looking around for some buckets for my 70 and cant make up my mind which ones would fit best. i'm looking for something sorta thin backed so i can have a little more room(i'm kinda tall) and low backed/removable headrest, so more than likely a car bucket.

i was looking into some seats out of a 04 or newer grand prix but i think they may still be a little too thick backed.

any opinions and even pics would be great!

Not trying to be wise,but the best bucket seats for these trucks are factory buckets. The next best choice are newer Chevy Truck buckets. I mean all the way up through the square bodies and even into the 88-98s. Blazers and Suburbans had them,as well as some regular cab trucks. Most are high backs and many don't like that. But,they are comfortable and they are safe. It seems any bucket seat with built-in seat belts are too much for these cabs.

If I go that route ill prob go for the grand prix seats, i like the bigger side bolsters they have and are close to the same size.

But I do agree that the factory ones fit the best but they dont look to comfy and are high and hard to come across.

I saw a pair of 90's honda civic (What he said) seats one time in a guy's cab and they looked like a good cheap option. Obviously required a lot of work to get the frames to work...but had thin backs and looked fairly comfortable and with the removable headrest were right under the rear window...

How about stock 69/70 GM truck buckets, maybe something like pictured below? They are still out there for the picking and not much else is going to fit as good or be as , and with you mentioning the fact that you are kinda tall, most of the other swap in type conversion buckets are gonna put ya right up and into the steering wheel and or ceiling of the cab. Remember OE Stock = ... Mel

Holy Cow!! No wonder I can't find anywhere except on here!! Those look awesome. I am inclined to agree - nothing looks better than stock. If they are too expensive, save up and wait, it'd be worth it.

Nope, only have the dark red 69's and the two tone blue 69's around yet as most of this type of stuff comes and goes unless I have a place or future plan for it. Curlytop, all of the above pictured with the exception of the 69 blue set, came out of low mile cab/chassis motorhomes, keep an eye and ear out for one of them for the premium stuff . Mel

If your as big as I , you need all the help you can get .I put in a tilt in my 68 GMC and pushed it in as faras I could towards the dash. Only drawback to pushing it in the tilt seems to be less as the lever effect is shorter but it still helps clear everything. I'm 6.2 and 380 plus

I know the '90s trucks cabs give more room. But,the seats I have in my '92 don't seem that fat in the back compared to original buckets. They are crazy comfortable,I know that,at least for me. I never used them in a 67-72 but would if the need ever arises. I've always preferred low backs. Matter of fact,that's what I ordered (custom vinyl) in my '92 instead of the high back cloths...and I ordered everything and anything I wanted. But,I had the driver seat bottom redone 3 times (every 20,000 miles or so) because the new vinyl sucks. When it needed it again,and was out of warranty,I bought new take out cloth high backs and what a difference!!

Even though I love the stock seats, they just are not easy to find around here and when I do find them they are $$ plus shipping. I was at a wrecking yard a month or so ago and I took a couple pictures of a 2003 Dodge truck seats. I noticed that they have relatively flat backs and with the headrest removed it looks like they would sit below the window. My criteria for newer seats is that they need to be thin, not protrude into the window and no integrated seat belts. And the best part is these go for 100 bucks all day long. Not sure if I will go this route but its an option.

i'm gonna try to push the tilt when i get one as far foward as possible. i'm 6'2" and i haven't sat in a truck with full interior in it (mine was already torn apart) so i don't really have an idea how much room there is but looking from pics there doesn't seem to be much room in these cabs.

and i never noticed how thin the backs were on the dodge seats, i may have to look into them.

on the dodge bucket seat, you will have to cut the factory seat brackets off all the way to the slider and build your own mounting bracket ( a low profile type) otherwise your head will be towards the top of the cab. But once u cut off the stock mounting brackets they are a good fit for theses trucks.

and they are pretty comfortable as well, Have them in my daily driver and have no complaints, if you can try to find the electric driver seat gives a great amount of adjustment

Sounds like no adjustment at all is needed. I'm 5'10" and I keep my seat set all the way back. I never adjust my seat.When you cut the brackets you can rig it up to sit lower,too

curlytop,search for the thread on moving the steering whell towards the dash.It will help with room,it's written for a non tilt but may help until you tilt.I don't mind high backs since I have a panel and they do help with safety,especially whiplash.

The 03 Ram Seats have to have a new frame made to make them fit, been there done that, the 01 models will go straight in the trucks with some additional brackets and work well. I have a set in my GMC.
