Don't you hate when doing the right thing SUCKS
So, to lay it out first. I am currently having to pay for 2 houses, 400 miles apart, 1 is up for sale, PRAYING the market turns and i can sell it. Paying over 2400 a month in house payments alone can get a person down.... So we have been saving lately and i havent been able to do much if any work on the truck, yet i still use it as a daily driver....
There is so much I want to do to the truck RIGHT NOW..... (yes i am impatient) Everytime i even mention it to the wife i get the meanest look you have ever seen! So I have thought of a plan that she actually likes....IF i stay in budget.... The thought/plan, sell the 72. I know I can get out of it what i need. Maybe not exactly as much as i paid (yes i paid to much) but enough.... After selling the 72, i would find a CLEAN 60-66 model that needs a motor, since i have a brand new .30 over 307 ready to be assembled and that is my wifes dream truck (60-66 stepside). Crazy enough i found 1 in the exact price range i wanted and needs motor work..... So what this all boils down to is, should i do it? Should i sell the 72 and get something both of us would be happy with and i wouldnt want to modify AS MUCH over the next couple of years while we pay everything off? Or should i just keep the 72, keep driving it and wait to do the restorating in a few years? I truly do understand not spending the money right now till we sell the house, but my wife has started us doing the Financial Peace.... And by her schedule, it will be a couple of years before she will allow me the money to spend on the truck!!! My 72 and a 66 i am looking at....... |

Well, 'if momma's not happy, no one is happy'... Seems like you've found a pretty good compromise. I'm not one to say "sell this or buy that", but at least this way you'll have something to tinker with, you wife will like it, and you can drive it. I haven't noticed any shortage of 67-72's in my area, I see them for sale all the time, so once you get your finances in order, you can build yourself another nice '72 and she can still have her own truck.

sell the 72 build something you both can enjoy and buy wat you want later someone is always selling and you may find something that doesnt need to much keeps her happy u get to tinker still and you both get enjoyment from it

The best way for a couple to stay a couple, is to do things you both like doing, together. If you two could work together building an early 60's truck, by all means do it! You'll be able to replace your truck somewhere down the road. When I come home to a smiling, happy wife, all the other bs in this world seems pretty trivial. If you got a good one, keep her happy!

Financial Peace is a top notch system/plan. Stick to it.
IMO Dave would tell you that if you two have two vehicles, keep the truck and drive it as is. If the truck is an extra vehicle, and it has no sentimental value, sell it and buy another when the time is better, financially speaking.

Selling the bikes arent an option. I think i am going to look around. If i find interest in mine, and something in the 60-66 range i like, i might go for it. Not going to rush it though...

Re: Don't you hate when doing the right thing SUCKS
Redleg, why don't you rent the house out your not living in? As long as you can get enough to pay the morgage on it, then you can wait till the market is much more stable too sell the house. Running from debt is not always the best way like that Financial Peace program says, in a stable market it is the best idea but in a down market sometimes holding on can pay off. That should free up the money need for your 72 or a new 66 rather than waiting all those years. Besides if there isn't money for the 72 now then there isn't money for a 66 that sounds like needs more work.

The house is almost brand new. We were very lucky with the last tenants. However, a large plant just closed in the town where the house is. 850 jobs lost. We talked to a few people and the place i work for is hiring though (I transferred from that site to current one) The house is 1 mile from there. In a good location. So we figured to give it a chance to sell. And on Saturday we got a call that we have an offer pending loan approval. Fingers crossed and praying!!!!!! Let me be a little clearer. I was very blessed and the transfer i took has over doubled my salary. My wife also found a job making 13,000 a year more than she used to. I can still currently pay for 2 houses, and put some money in the bank....as well as live comfortably, BUT we both hate where we are currently at, the wife hates it more than i do....(Which means i hate it a lot too!!!) SO, the wife has decided to pay off 100% of what we owe so we can take the massive paycuts and move to wherever we want. (back to Kentucky on the farm) By her schedule we will be debt free in less than 3 years. The money is there, just not allowed to touch it right now!!! That and i just paid the IRS over twice what i bought the truck for, which i already admit i overpaid for!!!! Since i use the 72 as a daily driver along with the bike, my thought was to sell the truck and get something a little more practical OR a 60-66 model so we both could enjoy it. My wife loves those trucks and really isnt a fan of the 67-72s.... The truck is paid for, so whatever i get needs to be the same cost for whatever i can sell my truck for..... That 66 was. However it appears to be gone so back to the drawing board! The reason i am ok with getting something that needs motor work is because i have a brand new motor just needing assembled. Another $500 in parts and labor and she is done.... I know i'm probably not making the greatest of sense, it sounds a lot better in my head, and is not as easy to translate into writing!!! |

It sounds like you have a good plan put together. Stick to it and pay that debt off.

Re: Don't you hate when doing the right thing SUCKS
Dude.....you a have a wife that likes old trucks? i broke up with my last girl friend six months ago, not that it matters but i swear if i met a girl tomorrow that loves 60-66 over 67-72s, my 70 and 68 would be on craigslist in 30 mins, and id be on one knee. my opinion, when finance allow, get another truck for you later, sell yours for enough to have cash for other truck and play money for it, cruise harley, be picky and find a good bodied truck, spend the left over from the other truck on it, be happy, and give it to her when you get money for a 67-72. And i know where a sick lifted step slant nose sits, bout spitting distance from me, its a good t ojecy but in good shape. I bet drivable.

Re: Don't you hate when doing the right thing SUCKS
Well the ole girl is gone. Going to miss her but it is for the best right now. She back with the guy i got it from. He made her what she was and wanted it back. She has a good home thats for sure!
Talking with the wife, we are going to go the practical route right now. Get a dependable truck. Never know. Might be a square body, or newer, but i plan on staying on the board and I'll be back among the 67-72 crowd sooner than later i hope!!! |

Re: Don't you hate when doing the right thing SUCKS
Well, figure i will post up. SOld the truck last week. Pick up its replacement today. While it isnt a Chevy or a classic. It is something the wife loved and i do as well. Its going to be fun and we got an extremely good deal.
2001 Jeep Wrangler 6 cylinder, auto, ac 3' susp lift, 2" body 33X12.50X15 MAXXIS BIGHORN MUD TIRES ION 15X8 WHEELS She is fun! So, after we get it paid for, the plan is to get another 60-72. One that me and the wife can work on together. A real project... So i will stick around here! Learn everything i can and drool over the projects!!! |
