Re: I need engine help

Is it stock or just start all of a sudden? I think of my truck when i put dual carbs and huge cam in it and i had to put a stall converter in it so it would move, that comes to mind to me

Re: I need engine help

Sounds like accelerator pump going bad in the carb to me. Bump the timing up 2-4 deg and see if it gets better.

Re: I need engine help

If the truck was an original 6 cyl, the fuel line is only 5/16", could be starving a bit for fuel volume.
Also a new carb doesn't mean it's a good one-it happens.
Sounds to me more like a fuel problem, not a major mechanical thing. Is the vac advance on a ported or timed vac port on the carb?

Re: I need engine help

all lines are correct and vacs at 14+ it seems that fuel is the problem it runs and idles great but once in gear and I power brake it or lunge forward it dies

Re: I need engine help

For troubleshooting purposes, I would install a see thru fuel filter in line. You can then visibly see if the fuel volume goes down when you put it in gear. It will take two people to do this.

If you're using the old tank better put a filter between tank and fuel pump. This is what I collected using new tank just in the line from tank to fuel pump.

Re: I need engine help

timing at 14 without vac total was 43 we did check the timing gears and it dead on, so we put it all back together and I bought a clear gas filter and I took the lines off and pour the gas in a glass and we got sediment not much but we also got rust. I took the carb a part and cleaned everything and blew it out, I think that the fuel maybe my problem. I hope

Re: I need engine help

I would agree with accelerator pump...the minute you move the throttle it should be spraying fuel from the pump shooter..... it may have a plugged channel or the rubber on the pump itself is hard and not sealing in the well.....
