Oil Filter

I have a 51 3800 in restoration with a 1953 full oil pressure 235. I have done the modification to add the in line oil filter. I have the manifold mounted bypass filter I would like to use. I have read that the bypass filters use a finer screening than the in line filters. If I use the bypass filter as an actual in line filter will it starve the engine of return oil.
