2000 s10

Hi...first time over here and would like to ask a question on a 2000 s10 chev that I am buying....it has a 4cylinder 5 speed manual..short box all orginal paint...good shape... approx 165000 mi on it well maintained wanting to know what I should look for...wanting for now to set it up with the ralley wheels with the derby caps...wonder what size will bolt right up...no rust in this truck....and on the 4 cylinder what mileage are you getting... know you all trick em out with small blocks.....1500 is the asking price from a family friend.....think its a good price....always on the other side with my 72 chev....Thanks Frank

Frank,It's alright you can enjoy the little brother too!

I had a 98 S10 before I got my 92 and it was set up the same as yours. I usually got 25 on the highway. I would put 15x7 with a 3-4 BS and 215/70-15 on it. But you could go bigger but you'll hurt your mileage

Thanks Indian113 for getting back to me on this....want to dress it up with the rallys and will start checking out the tire shops for the sizes you mentioned (have a set of caps and rings sitting in the attic) they kinda look cool with em....gas prices out our way are 1.40 a liter.... from what I hear it may go up to 1.75 by summer...always goes up then!!!...works out to almost 6 bucks a gal....Yeeeesh!!!!....save the old 72 for hunting trips....and use this little truck bit more for going to work....Thank you Frank

I would start checking the ball joints, u joints, motor mounts, tranny mount, oil leaks, and fluids. I would definately change the rearend fluid.

And here is the pic of the 1500 dollar special....its the flex fuel type...which I think is no longer up here....so far as a daily driver its awesome...soon to be hooked up with the rally wheels and tires.

thanks man, I've been trying to clean it back up for the summer but haven't had much time. The guys over at s10forum know a lot of stuff so I'd check that out. Just a warning though, they aren't the most... friendly. Tons of info on the site though

as long as live is a colder climate the 4 should be fine. we have alot of issues with 2.2ltr cylinder heads cracking down here, but it was 96*f(35*c) today and thats cold for us at this time of year.

good news is a sbc v8 fits in s10s like its supposed to be there.

for a second gen theres a bit of cutting up you have to do but it is pretty minimal

pass side frame and you gotta take a sledge to the fire wall..i think they make a kit for it and a "s-10 engine swap for dummies" book now. us old guys had to figure it out by trail and error.

yeah there are tons of how-to's now and all sorts of aftermarket kits and things.

Its sunny and this is my project today...change out my exhaust manifold to non air injection!!!!

Nope, that was a pretty good price. I just sold my 99 with 120K on it for $4000. 2.2L/5spd reg cab... but it was resale victory red!

Nice looking truck....the seat that was in your truck was it a bench style ..the head rests look different than mine....removable...the ones in mine are part of the seat...

It was. I put 94-97 blazer leather buckets in it. Great upgrade and a lot more comfy. I wanted 98+ but I took what I could find, I found those in a pick n pull during a half off day, I think I only paid 35 bucks for the pair.

I also added 94-97 side mirrors, they look a lot better than the dumbo mirrors and clear turn signals in the front.

Nice set up with the bucket seats...be a hard find up this way.They must have made a bench style with removable head rests ... found one pic doing a search...must be from a s10

nice find on the blazer seats. they make such a difference over the factory seats they put in the p/u.
just for reference for others reading. ive done this and it a fairly common upgrade, so the s-10 boards should have a step by step, but as long as the seats come out of a mid size or compact all you have to do is re-drill for the center seat bolts and bolt up s-10 seat bucket seat brackets up to 99. ive never done anything after 98 so i really cant say yay or nay on this, but from what i've heard the floor boards have a higher hump for the cat so you have to mod the brackets. i've got an 03, with the split 60/40, i bought for work and the seats are in bad shape now. after i paint it ill do the inside so ill find out soon enough.

Thought I would share some pics on the change out of the air injection exhaust manifold on the s10 due to a crack....first off I screwed up and bought the Dorman 674-400... this one is the non air injection...good price 145 bucks...and my bad I put the heat paint to it....my truck is the flex fuel so I it came with air injection...my concern was would this work and so far it has...starts right up, gas use is no different...and for testing up here its once every two years....and the air pump was never working anyways...new 02 sensor 45 bucks...first one was wrong it was a one wire...needed a two wire ..here are some pics
