64 weekend cruiser

Hello all. When I was 14 years old, I bought my first truck, a 66 chevy SWB stepside. Drove it all over Missouri and northern arkansas till I was out of college. Got involved in sprint car racing with my brother which took all my time and money untill recently when I finally sold all my racing equipment. I decided we needed something to work on and have some fun with so I started looking for an old truck. I was originally looking for a swb but found this LWB C20. The body was in such good shape for this area I decided I better jump on it. There is a small amount of rust on the bottom of the front fenders, and the right kick panel on the inside. There are only two small dents on the entire body plus the tailgate looks like someone modified it with a hammer for some reason.

Re: 64 weekend cruiser

I have been working on it a couple weeks already. Im switching it to 1/2 ton with a cross member and rear end from a 68. the rear is a 3:73 posi 12 bolt. Im going to start with 2 1/2 inch drop spindles a 4 inch drop springs in the rear and see how that looks. also will have PS and PB. Just want something that looks good and fun to cruise around in on the weekends.

You don't mess around do you? Down to the frame already.

Nice score on the 12 bolt posi.

Did the truck come with a 327 and TH400?

yes 327 with TH400, but I pulled a head off the engine this evening and it probably needs complete overhaul. I have a decent running 350 so I need to decide what im going to do there.

I have made some progress this week. We replaced the C20 rear cab mount with C10 style and built a new perch.

Re: 64 weekend cruiser

I got the frame painted and it came out pretty good. Since I plan on driving this truck I didnt go to the expense of blasting and powder coat. I degreased it and power washed it along with a little wire brushing and scuff padding. then I used a satin black equipment enamel. I have used equipment enamel quite a bit in the past. It covers good and sticks to about anything. $28 a gallon.

Re: 64 weekend cruiser

started sanding today. also hit the floor board and rockers with the sandblaster. they are pretty solid, but did have some small holes blow thru. will have to cut some areas out and replace, but in really good shape compared to some I have seen.

Re: 64 weekend cruiser

Getting some done on the cab. Racing season has started so working on the truck has slowed a little. hopefully I will have the cab about ready for paint this weekend. I should have everything for my motor next week, so I can get that back together.

Re: 64 weekend cruiser

making some more progress. got the cab painted and the motor is back together.

since the PO chopped the dash up for their 8 track tape player, I just cut the whole center. then put in a flat piece and cut it for the new a/c vents and control as well as stereo.
