Welcome from across the ocean. Great looking 63 you have there. When you get your questions, ask away. More pics are always great too. Looks like its been converted to 5 lugs, so somebody's already done a little work on it.

Welcome Dale, I too am a neebie to this site. Ask away! On my 64 c10 I swapped the entire cross member with a 1984 model c10 and it bolted right up. Now it's 5 lug disk brakes. Marty

Re: New guy with some questions

Ok then guys

I need a little advice, ive recently bought the C10 as a easy to finish project, im planning on sticking a 2.5 turbo diesel engine in it because the cost of fuel over here has gone through the roof,
Anyway first thing i have noticed is there is no rear cross member, Has anyone on here made one? i only need it to pickup the new shocks ( ive got a shock relocating kit )

Right next i think the gearbox cross member is missing? heres a picture

And heres the biggest problem, the seller had the front cross member sectioned around 1.5" but ive now noticed that the front tie rods have not got enough clearance, the previous owner has bolt the front cross member in its orginal position which means there is a 1.5" gap between the top of the cross member and the chassis, he only has it on the bolts that pass through the side of the chassis not the bottom.

The problem is i need the truck on the road quick so im thinking of packing the cross member out so its no different than stock, or is there anyway of sorting the tie rod question with ease

Re: New guy with some questions

Welcome to the forum Dale

As for the missing 'gearbox' crossmember, the original typically supports the bellhousing. It looks as though this one has been removed to accomodate an automatic trans. Since you are installing a totally different engine, you will likely have to fabricate a trans crossmember to work with the engine and trans you go with.

The original rear shock crossmember is a bit forward of the differential, with a couple brackets for a thru bolt to attach the top of the shocks.

As for the front crossmember, fabricating a filler piece between the crossmember and the frame would be the quickest and easiest to get you on the road.

I'm interested to see the 2.5 turbo diesel engine and trans installation.
