Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
My name is Craig, I live in Cambridge Ontario
I just purchased my 66 a few weeks ago. Searched on line for a few months until I found this relatively unspoiled gem. According to the VIN it was built in St Louis. It was titled in Arizona up until 1986, when the most recent owner brought it to Wisconsin. During the importing process I had the Wisconsin title from 86 in my hands, coffee stain and all! I had to surrender it to CDN customs, but scanned it in colour for posterity! From the mileage recorded on the title in 86, to the mileage on the odometer when I got my hands on her, there were less than 4000 miles traveled. There is a fair bit of rust visible, but it is all surface rust, body panels and doors are SOLID. Anyway, I have been reading through a couple of builds, and am thrilled to have found this forum, it will be a fantastic resource for me as I gradually restore the old girl! That is all for now, Craigerr |

Re: Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
4000 miles!!?? not 104,000? Nice! Truck looks good, and I see no rust at all. Have you done the paint already? Factory black? You say you are gradually restoring it (as opposed to modifying?), or do you mean just fixing it up? Welcome aboard, and let's have some more pics already. lol

Re: Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
Thanks, thanks, and thanks. Truck had 69,800 in 1986, now has 73,400. It looks better from a distance to be sure, but is very, very solid. It was painted at some point, but the last owner says he never painted it! I will get some more photo's and post them to give a better picture of it's condition tonight. I really appreciate all of the interest! Just enjoying the ride, and pondering what approach I want to take. I think I want to upgrade it mechanically before I dive into the body. FYI, it is supposed to be a 283, and has a 3spd manual, shifter was moved to the floor at some point.
Oh, and my friends call me Craigerr The closer the friend the more rrrr's |

Re: Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
The guy in Wisconsin who owned it for the last 25 years claims he never painted it, I haven't decoded the GVW plaque yet to see what colour it was originally. It was definitely painted at some point, over spray on some of the rubber from a hasty taping job. Won't be able to verify if the engine is the original 283 until I get it out and have a look at the numbers, but here is hoping.

Re: Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
So what's the plan(s)? - Keep in mind they will likely change as you keep looking through all the builds here. This place is going to cost me money I swear......or at least a lot more time, but that's what this is all about I guess.

Nice score Craig and welcome to the site, the only thing I would change right away is convert to a dual master cylinder, we wouldn`t want the single to fail one you..

Re: Member Intro, 66 C10 SWB FS BBW
Thanks Rich, likely my first project will be the front suspension and brakes. I think I will lower 2.5" with drop spindles, add disc brakes, go 5 lug, and a booster with proportion valve. Take care of cleaning up the front end while it is apart.
