reference point on subframe to set it level

I am installing a camaro subframe on my truck the no limit way and was wondering what point of reference to you use to set the subframe level. Can I use the flat spot on the kmember and set it level front to back and have truck frame level? Or is there a different point I should be using?

I have never done a clip but from what I have seen here I assume the Camaro rails that kick back under the frame are parallel to the ground on stock cars? If that is the case get that level and find a point on the part you are going to use that is also level. Could be the cross member, front frame horn, or you might need to spot weld on a reference piece on each side. Make sure you do lots of triangulation and diagonal measurement and check lateral level too before final welding to make sure it is square to the truck frame.

That part is gone. It was cut off behind the lower a arm mount. That's the reason I am asking. I'm sure there is a point on the subframe from the rear a arm mount to the front stubs I can use to reference..

Those tend to work a lot better if they have the legs on the back of them but you can still do it with with what you have.

You might read this and pick up a few pointers but Lux Blue keeps the back legs on the subframe when he puts one under a Task force truck.

I'm thinking that there should be an area in front of the upper A arms that is pretty level and Square When the Camaro is sitting static.

I'll see if I can get hold of my friend and see if he can tell me what the angle of the A arm shafts is in comparison to the stock frame on this frame.



One thing that has worked well for me during two subframe jobs on my rigs is to set the frame on blocks or stands at the static height you want to run it at but level front to back and then set the subframe at the static height from the bottom of the crossmember to the shop floor that a stock Camaro sits at. That way you get the good ride and you get the desired ride height without making extra modificatons.

What is the stock height of the camaro from the bottom of the kmember to the floor. I have the truck frame where I want it on stands and leveled off. I just need the height of the subframe to know where to set it. And of course still need to have a reference to use to set front to back of subframe level.

Eric, keep watch on the cross-shaft for the upper A-arm. With the chassis level, keep the cross-shaft at 7* TO 8*, up in front. This will give you a good anti-dive angle and keep the lower arms in range.

Thanks rob. I'll pick up an angle guage tomorrow. got it squeezed in the truck frame just need to set it then weld it up.
