4" lift question
I found someone selling a 4" suspension lift kit came off an 86 4x4 full size pickup. I'm wanting to buy it but wasn't sure if it would fit my 89 suburban, anyone know if its compatible?

Yes it should be the same. Just make sure that you get the steering arm and shocks to go along with the lift, as you will need both.

Is your suburban and the truck it came off of rated at the same GVW? i.e. 1/2 ton 3/4 ton 1 ton? Make sure that is the same also.

Yup. If the lift is all spring, make sure they rears are same length eye to eye. Most likely your Suburban is 56", but the truck could be 52" or 56" depending on options.

Watch your front drive shaft. I just went +2" and mine rubs the crossmember.

Oh i didnt even think about that, i just spent big money on a BDS 4" lift and still waiting to install it. If your rubbing with a 2" i can only imagine what mine will do. what is a remidy to get rid of the rubbing? drop the tansfer case?

On mine it barely touches the crossmember in one spot. It sounds like hell but I think I'll just grind the crossmember a bit. My front driveshaft could be just a hair shorter too. I have a TH350 with a NP208. You may not have a problem just something to keep in mind.

Assuming it is all spring then the gvw would make a difference unless your looking to get a slightly better ride, but like most lifts that small it's just a block in the rear so it wouldn't matter. Aside from that i have a 4in block lift and my transfer case was dropped from the factory pieces *the little 1in spacers sitting on top of the crossmember* and didn't rub i then put them back up top like original as i had to tilt my whole engine assembly forward for the 6.0 swap and the driveshaft is still fine and even when its on a lift suspension fully sagging the driveshaft was almost hitting the exhaust but not the crossmember spacers or not

Suburbans used 56" rear springs. There's a nice pair of 4" EZ-Rides for sale on the parts board.
I've never had any problems with front drive shafts rubbing cross members.
