What floor shifters are you using and why

My column shift lever is getting loose and I'd like to move the shifter to the floor. I see a lot of different shifters by Lokar, Hurst and so on, Lots to choose from. I like the Lokar but have never shifted one to see how they feel. I want a good positive shift. What are you using and why?
Thanks for your input

Re: What floor shifters are you using and why

I'm considering the same thing. I've heard good things about Lokar as far as solid, accurate shifts and style. I think they're pretty easy to put in.

Lokar. There's a reason they're expensive as hell. They're worth every penny. Mine's been shifting my 700R flawlessly since 2006. I "toggle" manually between 3rd and OD with it. Love it.

Here's some pics of mine installed. It's a 16" floor shift model. It connects using a steel rod.

Re: What floor shifters are you using and why

I had a spare B&M star shifter leftover from my 66 Chevelle when I converted it to a 4 speed so I put that in my 69 C10 stepside. I just built a metal "table" to bolt it down to and that raised it up high enough. Sorry no pics yet.

Re: What floor shifters are you using and why

I like my B&M Megashifter, I can use it if I'm running my TH400 3 speed or my overdrive 700R4. If I'm going to do some heavy duty racing I run the TH400 and I switch to the 700R4 if I'm going to do some long distance cruising.

Lokar. No question. I have TH350 with floor mount 16" Nostalgia model. Also have the vertical LED Boot Indicator, which I highly recommend. Nice to know what gear you're in. Don't have any good pictures, but could get one in next day or so if needed. Got it through Zig's Street Rods. They were very helpful.

Re: What floor shifters are you using and why

Do the Lokar shifters have any kinda positive stops? I like to manually shift my autos.
I'd prefer a ratchet type, but without reaching part way to the floor, or having a huge plastic box under the shifter, I haven't figured a way to mount a Hurst V Matic 2 (or B&M equivalent) short of swapping out the factory lever for a taller one......

Yours looks exactly like mine, appears to be a 16" floor mount.

Re: What floor shifters are you using and why

In my 72 GMC I had a B&M. Initially had it hooked up to the TH350 and then to the 700R4 when I switched. The shift cable did break at one point after a few years of use.

I later began to think that it was a little "sterotypical" so in my 68 I just used the column shifter (with a Lokar cable to clear the headers at the tranny)

My 69 has the stock 4 speed shifter

I have a 23" floor mount lokar and I love it! I put another bend in it to get it away from the seat a little bit.

Thanks, at 6'2" I shouldnt have any problem then LOL . I'm really having a hard time between the Lokar and the Mega. I'm more of a drag race guy than a street cruiser so while I really like the looks of the Lokar I feel the Mega would be more fitting. I'm going to really have to ponder this one.

Thanks for all the input
