Need help asap!!!
I just finished putting on my new carbourator on my 75 gmc, but I now have a HUGE problem!! when I crank the truck over, just before it catches the carb backfires, then stays on fire for a few seconds! We reacted quickly and put the fire out with water.. no one was hurt thankfully, but could it mabey be the vacuum lines? my timing, or fouled plugs?

Re: Need help asap!!!
Did you mess with the distributor or timing?

Re: Need help asap!!!
If you pulled the distributor it looks like it might be turned 180 degrees.

Re: Need help asap!!!
If you moved it towards the pass side the timing will be retarded. This is an easy fix, if you know timing. If not there is a lot to explain. Try turning it back towards the drivers side and see if it will start. Don't turn it over forever, if it doesn't start keep going back until it does. If it doesnt, there is more work to do.........

Re: Need help asap!!!
Don't ever throw water on a gas fire.
It can spread the gas and cause a big fire. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Need help asap!!!
That big vacuum fitting, under the fuel inlet,at the front of the carb should have a hose to connect it to the PCV valve, also,or you'll lose engine vacuum.

Re: Need help asap!!!
I fixed where the vacuum hose goes, Truck was running beautiful... for 15 minutes.. I went to pull out onto the road, it sputtered, so i backed back into the driveway, shut it off. then when i tryed to crank it over again, it wouldent catch.. it did, but then i died. I put some gas down the carb and it ran again!, but white smoke is coming out now.. and it also died again. After a while of waiting, i tryed it again, but it wouldent go until i held my foot to the floor, and even with it to the floor it just barely idled... Also, I noticed some Anti-freeze where the rad connects to the intake manifold.. is this bad?
