NP203 selector indexing issue

My selector for the NP203 has almost no indexing. It shifts through a mushy, mess. There is a part time kit installed, with lockout hubs. I just had the truck up and tested it. In drive, and what felt like the selector was all the way back, the rear wheels spin. When I put the selector slightly forward, (Neutral first, and hubs set to lock) the front axle spun too. Sounds good so far.

What might my issue be, and how can I fix it? Is the indexing controlled by something in the shifter assembly, or something inside the TC?

Thanks.

Re: NP203 selector indexing issue

all the way back locks it up,
one click fwd i feel it unlock, maybe it's not "all "out
I've had it stuck in 4X4 lock, unlocked the hubs and drove it home
may wana check out that some modded kits don't lube the front drive gears
but those sticks look cool

Re: NP203 selector indexing issue

I think I may get the sticks and see what that gets me. As long as the TC is not shot, I think it would be a good place to start trying to fix this problem.

Currently I just have the selector forward and the hubs in free.

Re: NP203 selector indexing issue

I have so far taken apart the shifter assembly, cleaned it all up, and reassembled it.

no change.

I just now adjusted it with the pin in the hole and all that, but again, to no avail. I think my next option is the twin stick or a used shifter. Has anyone used the ORD shifter?

I don't want to break anything trying to force the shifter. how much force can I apply to it before i need to be worried about breaking something? I realize that is subjective, but if someone has experience with it, let me know!

Re: NP203 selector indexing issue

I've got a kit in it, and my pattern is
4L
2L
N
etc...it's on a sticky on the dash right now

I am a moron, and forgot to remove the pin from the neutral hole. I have a VERY faint index on more or less 4 separate gears. I think I may still be replacing the shifter, but I think this will do for driving around the city for now.

Does anyone know what else I can do to tighten the shifts up? I would ideally have tight definite shifts, where as right now I have to be gentle to feel each index. Is there something inside of the TC that may be worn? What am I feeling catch when it shifts into each gear?
