Need help with lowering with torsion bars 1963 gmc!!

Any one on here deal with lowering with torsion bars? How to loosen to lower?should I put on shorter stiffer shocks?I'm installing 5" lowering springs in the rear and 2.5 drop spindles in the front, I need to gaIn 2-2.5 drop out of the torsion bars.... I think???please help??

I gotta ask what torsion bars if its 2wd its got coil springs in the front.

Yep no coils in the front , just torsion bars and shocks, I've only seen a couple mentions on the Internet.It was on the v6 gmc 2wd 1/2 tons, olso some one on here talking about turnig out the torsion bars.

If its is like the modern 4wd suspension, you can loosen the keys, but the suspension might be a little soft. They might make or you could retrofit reindexed or adjustable keys that could help you out, on modern torsion bars chevy guys swap to ford keys for a little more height all the time. You might also look to see if some of the old chrysler car keys would have a benefit. I am sorry I am not more help, all my experience with torsionbars is to get them higher not lower, but maybe this could be some food for thought.

Learn something everyday,69gmcc10 is right you can loosen them but it will ride softer so you might not like the ride once you lower it.I would look in to changing it over to coil springs that would be easier to lower and have a smooth ride.

I think andrewmp6 is correct, from a product option stand pint and from a serviceability standpoint, I think it is the best option. If you cant fund many people here that know about stock torsion bars on a 63 chevy on this chevy site, just think of the issues you will have if you break down in the middle of nowhere.

I think 1962 is the last year for torsion bars.
