C 20 conversion to C 10
I have a 1968 C 20 flatbed with a custom built frame. Running a 454 with a Turbo400 and a gear vendor overdrive unit. 373 rear end with leaf springs and air bags. Its a really nicely built flatbed work truck. I'm planing on transplanting the cab, motor, tranny and gear vendor overdrive unit to a 1968 frame that I just got. The frame is ready to go.
I have a couple of questions about the 454 engine fitting in the 68 frame without notching the frame to make the headers fit. Is it true that if i get 73-87 454 engine mounts then the headers should clear with no problems? |

Re: C 20 conversion to C 10
WHat's wrong with the Big Block engine mounts in your current C20 frame?
Can't you just transfer them to the C10 frame?

Re: C 20 conversion to C 10
There's nothing wrong with the mounts...the issue is the frame was notched so the headers would clear the frame. I don't want to do the same to the C 10 frame. Any suggestions?

Re: Dan's Pride & Joy
Well I'm renaming my project... from c20 to c 10 conversion to Dan's Pride & Joy. On Friday I score the glove box door and a 1968 step side bed in excellent condition for $600. Now I just need to order new body and bed mounts, 454 engine towers and mounts, tie rod ends, shocks and a A Arm rubber stops and should be ready to start the transplant in about 2 weeks. Im transplanting my current 454 with turbo 400 and GV overdrive unit. I'll keep you guys posted. Any suggestions for this build will be appreciated.

Dan's Pride and Joy
I'm planning on lowering the suspension height of my truck and have a question. I want a 3" Front 5" Rear drop...can that be accomplished by just replacing the springs and shocks front and rear without changing the geometry
and still having a good ride? |

Re: C 20 conversion to C 10
Short answer; yes. but you won't like the ride. Three inch shorter springs will be a little rough because there is not nearly as much travel in them. Lowered spindles do not change the geometry, they just lower the vehicle, this allows you to have a longer spring and better ride. same in the back, get a two inch lowering block and a 3" shorter spring. It will cost more but it is better to do the job once rather than having to redo after you are disapointed with the easy way. Just my .02
