IFS for truck use?

I may have asked this before (don't remember) but has anyone heard for an IFS kit that maintains a 5,000lb GVRW?
I don't think I have the fabrication skills to pull it off but what I want to do is find an IFS of similar width from a 6-lug pickup & graft it in to the 57. I know of the mustang 2 / camaro clips but want to keep it work-ready.

Re: IFS for truck use?

I have one of Scotts and one of Steves Industrial X members and these are some of the best on the market, IMO as I have installed them both.

In the early 90's we fabed up a Mll X member to accept all Mll parts, except the disc brakes (Chevelle), and that one is in the 55 GMC, and has been rebuilt once in 20 years (my "old" daily driver)

I did not see where Steve was making these X members for the AD trucks "YET" but I would keep a eye on his site to see what he comes up with, as both shops have very fine quality good working suspensions that are just right for our AD trucks

Re: IFS for truck use?

I've checked out the No Limit and Scot's kits online. Both look extremely nice if one can afford them. At this point, I can't. My hope is to find the basic information for a DIY swap using as many OEM parts as possible. I buy auto parts wholesale through work, which saves buku money vs custom fabbed pieces.
The industrial chassis setup looks awesome and the price is getting downright reasonable, but it seems to be offered for 63 Ford trucks only. If there was a Chevy crossmember, I'd be emptying my savings instead of writing.

Re: IFS for truck use?

Hard to say at the moment. Right now, I'm in the planning stage. I've got to get an engine and a new gas tank into the truck at the very least, and probably a 4 speed, before I start looking at the front end. I'll see how much I want to spend once I've done that much.
The part that really appeals about the Dakota cross member is that it is using OEM 1/2 ton rated parts that can be bough inexpensively & darned near anywhere. Rubber bushings, as opposed to poly, and ball & stud type ball joints as opposed to Heims, help too.
