Ever had to shim a bed???
MY body line from the bed to the cab is just horrible! Not sure what the fix is for this, or if there are some kind of mounts that go under the bed.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
Thats a lot. Just wondering, looks like your beds gonna have a wood floor? In the second picture it looks like theres no wood. The wood will raise the bed up the thickness of the boards wont it?

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
No the woods not installed yet, but the wood go's on top of the bed rails so I dont think that this will raise the bed. I was thinking that some kind of rubber mount might go under the bed. But after some research I cannot find anything.

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
Yep wood will raise it 3/4". Thed bed mounts are metal on metal but they do sell rubber cushions for in between. They usually cause the opposite of your situation. Did you replace cab mounts? If so mybe check and make sure that's not causing any issues.

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
This is my '63 I can't find one of the '71 but they go together the same. Your front roll pan will go under the wood and the sides go over the top of the wood.

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
Yeah if you want to get an idea of how the body will line up just put some 1x4 in between the cross sills and the bed. The more I look at your pictures I'm guessing you will like the results.

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
could also b a problem if the cab mounts were not torqued down correctly and compressed to specs

Re: Ever had to shim a bed???
Based on your pics the wood will bring the bed up to the proper height When you put the bed together with the new wood. I did this on my stepper, square up the bed set it on the truck site through the tail gate to the front of the bed make sure they are parallel. And level with the body line on the back of the cab.
Shim the bed with simple washers until you are happy with it. Good luck and stay with it I know you will get it perfect! Cheers, Pat Posted via Mobile Device |
