Question 62 C10 V8 Engine Stands / Mounts

1962 C10 stock frame and 78 front crossmember...

I also have the 78 stands and mounts.

Eventually pulling the stock crossmember and with it will go the old front engine mount.

I have 2285 SBC motor mounts on the 64 283 I want to run and I have 66 C10 stands.

School me if you will it's been a long time since I put a small block in a early frame.

Does the frame height require the use of a spacer on top of the frame rail?

Any other points or potential problems I might have missed?

Thanks!

Thanks Ron - I thought there was a spacer required.

Yes I read the article... and my first response meant to indicate I agree and I had thought so for some reason.

I remembered someone else telling me or seeing that a spacer would be required and then the article confirmed it.

Thanks again!

Re: 62 C10 V8 Engine Stands / Mounts

Sorry to dig up an old thread...

I have a 1961 Apache that has a 350 sbc, with the motor mounts on the cast iron bell housing having two contact points, and the motor mount in the front having the horseshoe collar bracket that bolts to the front of the block.

Well, I rebuilt my 350 into a 383 stroker, and the harmonic balancer is much larger than the 350 stock harmonic balancer. Hence, it won't clear the horseshoe collar bracket.

So...I'm going to use the engine perches from the 67 to 72 sbc, and bolt to the motor mount holes on the side of the block.

This means, I now have FOUR (4) points of attachment for this block. Two in the front now, and the two original ones on the bellhousing in the rear.

With four mounts, is that going to cause a problem when running the engine? The motor won't be as free to move around when giving it the gas...except for the rubber bushings...

Thank you,
Tom

With the rubber motor mounts I think you should be fine.

John, I have a couple of horse shoe style motor mounts if you can't find any locally, I could ship you one cheap. I am in Arizona between Tucson and Phoenix, Az. Bob aka: Runningiron

Re: 62 C10 V8 Engine Stands / Mounts

John,
Thanks for getting back with me. I still have 2 horse shoe style engine mounts. You said that they were not cheap. Do you mind me asking how much you had to give for them? I want to sell mine at a reasonable cost and not be too low or overly priced. I also have a 1960-1962 V-8 bell housing with the passenger side hydraulic clutch arm. I have seen them on e-pay for about $200. I think I'll post it with a horse shoe motor mount once I find out what the horse shoe motor mounts are going for. Thanks in advance.

Re: 62 C10 V8 Engine Stands / Mounts

Bob,
I found the motor mount and the bell housing on Craigslist. Total cost with shipping was $185.00. I think you could get $75.00 to $100.00 for the mount alone?
Good luck.
John
