Simply stumped
So my parking lights are getting the best of me. I kept blowing fuses so I went from the front to the back and removed all the wires that were hacked in and replaced all Burnt bulbs and still blew fuses so I disconnected all my extra lights, took out all my light bulbs and put new switch in to try and pin point the problem but now it blew without any lights. Any ideas?

Which fuse or fuses are blowing?

Re: Simply stumped
One idea to try... unplug the switch, then replace the fuse. If it blows, then you have isolated the problem to the supply side of the switch, which will narrow it down alot. If it doesnt, then you have eliminated that part of the system. Hope ya find it.

Re: Simply stumped
I'd take a really good look at the 4 conductor wire running front to back. I had an intermittant short there that took me months to track down.

Re: Simply stumped
Take Weasel Diesel's suggestion to the next level. Unhook the harnesses, switch etc. Replace your fuse. Start plugging things back in. When the fuse goes you have isolated where your short is.

Re: Simply stumped
So if I keep it hooked to the batterie and unhooked the switch it will still try to send power to the lights? And yeah I put a cd player in, it used to be under the bench seat but I moved it to the dash, the cd player works fine, I have brake lights, turn signals, hazard lights and headlights but once u pull that knob it blows the fuse, the headlights work but not parking lights.it's a 20 glass fuse and it doesn't look like anything is in or around where the fuse goes to blow it.im to the point of replacing all the wires for headlits turn signals parking lights all of it. Would it be worth it and how much would something like that cost me

Re: Simply stumped
I don't have a hitch so there's no wires for one and I'm to that point of shooting the truck and keep the shells for fuses lmao

Re: Simply stumped
Have you looked over that rear harness good? Theres lots of stuff for it to get nicked on back there and there wasn't any protective covering on mine. I looked over mine two or three times before I actually found the short.

Re: Simply stumped
What's the gauge size for the wires used for all of the wires for my parking lights I'm tempted to buy a few rolls of different colored wire and redo it all my self

Re: Simply stumped
Well I pulled the dash cluster off and checked the plug and it seems fine but I'm gunna still gunna test the plug with the volt tester. I cleaned up the cluster and all the gauges, looks great now and wiped all the bulbs clean and checked for blown ones. It's looking beautiful now and hopefully it was a dirty connection that was buggin my fuse, but I'm not taking any chances because I really don't want to put Italy together and find out its still broken

Re: Simply stumped
So I checked the plug and put a new fuse in with nothing plugged in it still blew so I gave up and put it all back together and as I was doing that I pulled a light out by accident but then noticed the same colored wires going to the ground to my cd player but it was a grey wire insted of black gong to my ground, so I disconnected it and BAM problem solved, guess there was a light that got clipped out and I hooked it to my player by accident, cd player worked fine like that but not my lights, so ow problem solved
