Red rebuild
Well... It took me 2yrs to get it this far and after getting it all together and driving it for 2 months, I wished I had swapped the motor and a few other things... The 305 just was not cutting it... So I sourced a 5.3 and a new frame and am doing it over.
Just before I started @ the last show The 5.3 w/ 4L60e supposed to be under 58k New notch w/ bridge welded |

Re: Red rebuild
Looks like a good start. Can't go wrong with and LS engine combo. Wishing now I did the same.

Re: Red rebuild
started cleaning on the new frame.. Had a little POR-15 left so I slapped it on the front.
Got pics back from the guy building my harness. He says it will be done Sunday. Should get my PCM tuned on Saturday. Tearing down the front suspension on the old frame last night... |

Frame is painted. Wanted to do it red, but could not find a product like POR-15 in red.

Got the PCM reprogrammed for $60.00! Found out the PCM was for a 4.8, so I am still a bit worried. He had a few other 5.3s he had done in the past, so flashed it with one of those files. I will need the crank relearn, but he said to just bring it down and he can take care of it. |

Re: Red rebuild
Got the rear in this week and dropped in the engine today. Might have to pull it if my Suspicion of a 4.8 is true. At least I get to mock everything up...

I wouldn't toss the 4.8 unless you want to go 5.3 only. There are alot of guys producing good power from 4.8's with just a cam, headers, and pcm reprogram. |

Re: Red rebuild
yea, I know they can make the power, but I was supposed to have 5.3, so had my pcm flashed and paid for a 5.3 with low miles. I can pick up another 5.3 and sell the 4.8 if need be.

Re: Red rebuild
If I remember right it should be cast in the block above the starter or on the back of the block

Didn't want to kill anyone with the pics being too large, but I will make them a bit larger going forward. Still using the KP 6 link and the dropmember, just moving to the new frame and motor. |

Re: Red rebuild
Got it started just to see if it will run, had issues with the fuel pump relay, but bypassed it for the startup test. Aparently needed to get the O2 sensors on so it will do more than chug.
Routed the fuel and brake lines last night until after midnight... Waiting on some SS clamps to secure the lines to together on the notch. Ordered O2 sensors and hope to get some exhaust work done this week. Trying to figure out how to move the cab and bed to the new frame. I am thinking I will raise both up on jack stands and try to roll the new frame under. My only issue is my drive way...It's going to be hard getting the new frame with the motor and everything rolled back up the hill... |

Re: Red rebuild
Use a Engine Hoist for the bed or a few buddys thats no problem. The cab you could raise it up on jack stand then use some wood boards to slid the cab across to other frame. Looking good

Re: Red rebuild
Got the cab over on the new frame...Man that was a challenge in a two car garage with the cab on the wrong side and a downward slope drive way.
It slid down the lift and bashed the drivers door in...got to mess with paint again... With new cab mounts I found I don't have the problem with the drive shaft hitting frame when all the way down. Now all the fun wiring and stuff begins. |
