Rinc's 72 K-20
Sweet ! I went an bought this truck today. It'll be delivered to my house in the next coming week.
Short term plans are tyres, clean up, driving it for short trips to work to see what bugs pop up. Its gonna be my driver as my slammed VW bus just aint a daily driver. Gonna remove the light bar above the cab an the massive peice of metal bolted to the front bumper. Truck has some rust in the cab an fenders. Thats all fine as it wont get any worse here in the desert. I'll run it like this for a while an work on the suspension. The blocks on the rear measure 5 1/2 inches so I am assuming its a 6in lift. Tyres are 285-75-16. Its got a 400 sbc th350. I am not sure what the axles are. I'll get that later. The badge says Custom Deluxe. I still new to these so not sure what trim/ other things are involved. So remove a couple things. Clean it up. The rims look ok. I'll clean them up an see what I have. Not sure yet what tyre brand an style I go with. |

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
Small update.
Got it home yesterday. Took it for a trip around the hood today. Need to tune the carb. Brakes are mushy. Tail lights do not work ........ the smile on my face ? Priceless ! Tomorow gonna pull the front drive shaft. I can move it with my hands. No problem as I'll have me dad take it to his shop to get it done. Gonna pull the light bar. I may need to have my shop pull the pushbar on the front. That darn thang is heavy. Overall ? Man its my 1st 4x4. I cant wait to get it out in the desert ! I have plans for new tyres this weekend. Lets see if life lets me get it to the tyre shop. Tyres I was thinking of getting are Hancook Dynapro Mud Terrains 315-75-16. The books show me it will fit an 8in to 10in rim. I am assuming the white spokes I have are 8in. If I need a 10in rim, they are inexpensive to buy new ones.

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
Nice looking truck. It looks like a buffer could really work wonders on the paint. There are a few war wounds, but I bet it would be a heck of a 20 footer.

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
Looking at this side, the door an bedside seem to have been polished up. The old paint is flaking away in some spots.
Mostly I gonna be working on drivebility stuff. I gonna order tyres today. The brake lights aint working so need to attack that before I go get the tyres. The brakes need to be bled as they are mushy. I see no leaks so I hope that will cure it. OK ...... I need to get of here an get crackin !

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
OK so I went to the tyre shop today. I had ordered tyres an they came in. I drove the truck over (longest trip in the truck so far). I was all nervous an excited. I was hoping to get the new tyres put on the old white spokes but the rims came up being to narrow.
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT. Size are 315-75-16 They didnt have any white spokes so I chose to go with an inexpensive more modern rim. I was unsure about a chrome rim looking good to me. BAM ! I am sold .... HaHa ! At home With me Dads C-10

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
I Hate Wiring !
The brake lights dont work. I been taking out some of the 40 years of cluter in the wiring. Just cant seem to stumble on why the tail lights arent working. So I'm in the house with a fan blowing on me an taking a break.

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
check the switch at the pedal if you havent already. my wiring looked hacked on but it was just the switch why my brake lights weren't working

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
Grounds! Clean the ones you have, take the taillights apart and clean them, and add a sanded to shiny metal on both ends separate ground wire between the bed and frame. That's been the fix for me a buncha times. Cool truck, looks like the one in Tremors!

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
I realize it isn't a j10. But it's blue, up in the air, appropriate vintage, and has that whole faded desert look. Tremors was the first thing I thought of. Val and Earl would be proud!

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
With the help of one of my mechanics at work, he got the running lights an brake lights working. I am in his debt ! Turns out the headlight switch was bad. The brake lights didnt work because the wiring in the rear was bad. A PO had spliced in wiring for a tralier and it was a mess. All is better now.
I did run into trouble driving it today. After work I took it for an emissions test. It Failed ! Oh well. Easy to remedy. What stunk is it stalled at a stoplight on the way home. It was 105deg out at the time. It had plenty of coolant. I think it may be 2 thangs. 1. It could be I need to advance the timing a few degrees. 2. It also may have been vapor lock. I have tomorow off so I got thangs to check into !

Re: Rinc's 72 K-20
Glad to see it went to a good home, looks good with those new rims and tires. I was working in prescott valley a month or so back and saw it sitting there and was tempted to stop and check it out, then a few days ago I saw it going down the 17 on a flatbed and hoped it was going to a good home lol kinda cool to be able to watch the build now.
