power steering pump, is this a company mistake?
well i got a replacement pump from autozone for my 1982 chevy, cause the 70's pump required different lines.
got this thing home and the pump unit inside the resivoir is like turned too far up or something, its way off from the old factory pump off the truck, and the bracket wont even get close to fitting on it. is there a way to fix this or should i just return it to autozone and get a different one?

Funny that you posted this. I JUST picked one up on my way into work from Autozone as well and now you've got me worried. I guess I'll wait for answers and see if I have issues when I try to swap it tomorrow.

There are two choices for a pump for your truck. One of them has one mounting hole in the resovoir, the other one has two. Yours has two and the one you bought has one. The Napa cross reference number for the one you need is #817351F. Hope this helps.

my ps pump hit my smog pump, so i had to put a little notch on the smog pump...it was faster than going back to the store for a different pump.

ok so im confused on what you mean by the mounting holes in the resivoir.
this pump is 100% identical to the old one pictured with it, its just that the bolt holes are up and down and the older pumps holes are crooked diagonaled. almost like the new one has the pump twisted around in the resivoir or something..

Seems like whoever pressed the pump into that reservoir didn't pay much attention to the factory setup.

Yea that defiantly doesn't look right to me either. You might try calling them back or trying a different store to see if that's how there supposed to look. Good luck with it all.

From my previous post, look at the rear of the pump resovoirs and you will see two mounting holes on your old pump and one on the new one you bought. Have the parts guy cross the Napa number I gave you and you will have the correct pump. The new one cannot be turned to have the holes line up, it is built correctly, you just have the wrong pump.
