69 frame under a 66

Found a great deal on a rolling frame that has been lowered, the right way, and has a disc brake swap to boot. 5 lug front, 6 rear but easy fix.

I don't like the P/S swap set up that is needed for the earlier frame, no logical reason. This frame has dropped spindles, 1 inch dropped springs, rear frame cut out with lowered springs and proper shocks front and rear.

I know the front frame horns are different, no big deal, but what about the core support, cab and fleetside brackets? what do i need to do to mount the 66 cab and swb fleetside bed.

The set up is 250 miles away and before I go to get or look at it I want a better idea.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: 69 frame under a 66

Frame horns are different as noted.
Core support brackets are forward approx .750" for the 66 vs the 69.
Core support brackets are higher by approx 1" for the 66 vs the 69.
Rear cab mounts are higher by approx 1" for the 66 vs the 69.

The numbers are from memory so I'm not 100%. I had them written down in a notebook but recently moved so don't know where it is @ the exact moment.

Re: 69 frame under a 66

Also the '69 frame does not have the lower radiator crossmember as the '63-'66 frames do. You could likely install that crossmember in a '67-'72 frame.

One thing you might check into, is what the law in your state/county says regarding swapping frames. Mainly concerning the different VIN number on the frame as compared to the cab.

Re: 69 frame under a 66

I checked into the vin thing. They don't match to begin with, but I have bill of sale/titles for what i have and he has a title for the frame.
Sounds like just some r&r of brackets and a crossmember then I am good.
My memory isn't that great but this confirms what I thought I remembered. I used to have all this stuff laying around so it wasn't a big deal to check.

Thanks,
Steve
