Shortbed frame

I'm in the market for a 67-72 shortbed frame. Is there differences between them? From what I understand the dimple for power steering is the only difference?

What should I be looking for as problems when looking at frames? Obviously bent horns.

How do you make sure it is straight, just by eyeballing it?

Take measurements? If so, where?

Does anyone know where a nice 67-72 shortbed frame is in the southern California or Arizona area?

Thanks!

Re: Shortbed frame

Are you looking for a bare frame? or are you wanting something with all stock suspension?

Re: Shortbed frame

I believe bare frame would be ok as long as all of the cross members are on it. I have a complete long bed frame to steal the suspension from.

Re: Shortbed frame

What is the best way to make sure a frame is straight and a good one to buy? Is there more then just looking for visible damage?

Measure diamonds across the frame from a punched or fixed point.

And im sure admin would like you to support the board.

Here's some in the Phoenix area I would choose the second one since it has everything for 800 I'm sure you could work him down on the price. Money talks............

Re: Shortbed frame

Thanks for the link. I'm awaiting a response back from one of them, I believe he is a board member.

My main reason for this thread was to see if I could get any tips or advice on what to look out for when buying one of these old frames.

I don't want to buy a frame and find out nothing wil bolt up because the frame is tweeked.

Thanks again

Re: Shortbed frame

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Still wondering what the best way to tell if your buying a good straight frame.

Are there specific fixed points to measure? I'm assuming you measure in a x pattern?

I found the measurements

I'm looking to buy a frame from someone else and it would take hours to measure everything on this chart. Are there specific measurements I should take to make sure i is straight?

I already contacted him. Not sure how to get it from Mo to Southern Ca? I'm sure the shipping cost would be crazy

Re: Shortbed frame

Had a busy year last year, house, new job, etc.. . I did not get around to getting a short wheel base frame.

Anybody know where i might be able to get one in the So Cal or Arizona area? Want an original frame with trailing arms.

Re: Shortbed frame

Why not just save all the hassle and expense and shorten the long bed frame you already have?

Re: Shortbed frame

I left this here in the beginning because you were seeking information. Now it has become a "wanted to buy" thread. Please make all "wanted to buy" posts in the proper forum.

Re: Shortbed frame

I have a shortened long bed frame right now. Looking for the original shortbed for originality.

Is there any difference in the years of frames? 67-72? I thought the 67 was somehow different, something about power steering.
