Need brake help, Please

Mods, I also posted this in the 67-72 section, so I apologize if that's not allowed. I'm just trying to make sure anyone with knowledge on my issue would see my post. I've been lurking on this site for a long time, but I think this is my first post. I despirately need some help on the project my dad and I are doing. We've decided to do the 2012 Power Tour in our '61 pickup, and to make it tour-ready, we decided to put six lug disc brakes on it and lower it. I believe the truck is on a 64-66 frame, since it has coil springs up front with drum brakes. I did a lot of research prior, and this is what we rounded up. 1971-72 1/2 ton 2" drop spindles, 1971-72 1/2 ton calipers, and 1991 3/4 ton 6 lug rotors. We installed new upper and lower ball joints for a '71, and the spindles bolted right up. My problem is that my dad just called me and said that the calipers will not bolt up. Apparently the piston is making contact with the inside of the rotor (no pads installed yet). Our six lug rotors are the same thickness as what is called for on a 1/2 ton '71 (1.28"), so I can't figure out what the problem is. Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Lee

Re: Need brake help, Please

You can not use the '88-'98 light duty C2500 6 lug rotors on the '71-'87 spindles. This is because the rotors don't line up with the calipers.....just the problem you are having. Yes they use the same bearings as the '71-'87 rotors, but they are not machined the same. Those rotors have to be used with the '88-'98 C1500 or the light duty 2500 spindles. At this point, since you have already installed new ball joints and have the the drop spindles, etc., I would suggest just purchasing the aftermarket 6 lug rotors for the '71-'87 spindles.

Re: Need brake help, Please

As Captainfab said, I bought my 6 lug rotors from CPP, I think they were at my door in less than a week. Actually the price isn't bad. $129.00 for the rotors, $19.35 shipping (they are heavy) and $11.29 tax. If you order on the internet you can save the $11.29 tax. So the toatal for me was $159.64 Hope this helps.

Captainfab and 64shortbox,

Thank you both very much for your assistance. We've got the CPP 6 lug rotors on the way.
