69 3/4 ton big block
i'm looking at a 1969 3/4 ton chevy that currently has what the owner is calling a 402 big block. I know that 69's would have had the 396 but I'm trying to figure out if this is an original big block truck and if so, is this actually the 396. Unfortunately, the glove box door has been replaced so the sticker info won't help. is there any other way of determining this?

Re: 69 3/4 ton big block
You need to check the stamping on the pad on the front passenger side of the motor.
Take a rag and some cleaner, a bristle brush and a flashlight and take a few minutes and clean the pad off to see what the stamping is. It doesn't match the motor to the frame but it does date code the motor and identify to a type of truck chassis (ie: 3/4 ton, 1/2 ton) and also associate the transmission type. This might get you very close to the likelihood of it being the original motor or a replacement. If you get that stamping info off the front pad (numbers/letters) and post it we should be able to get you some good info on it. Good luck Coley

also, the truck doesn't have either the 8-396 or 8-400 emblems on the fenders. did they all have these?

You need to check the block first and then the other details will fall into place regarding the motor. Good luck Coley

Re: 69 3/4 ton big block
So, I found the build sheet. The engine code is listed as U8 or UB. Can't find this info anywhere. I've decided the vin as a v8 that was special ordered. On the top of the.shhet where I assume it should say what the engine, trans and axle are, is blank. Any help?
