How about performance wise? How would the engine react.

Most likely it would be like having worn rings and low compression in one cylinder but it could be as bad as removing one spark plug wire and running on 7 cylinders depending on how loose it is... Pete.

It'll miss at times (pretty bad) then maybe run alright for a few miles while it is coming loose and out. Maybe cause a spark knock type sound at times. Did that last year!

thanks everyone. You guys narrowed down a problem I've been haven since the switch from points to HEI( new dis, plugs, wires, changed to 12 gauge wire for power). I think I'll go over the plug tomorrow after the oil change( I installed a new oil pan gasket today). It was just one plug that was giving me sht. I didn't even need to put any pressure on the wrench, it just turned on it's own wieght. there was some carbon build up on the plug not much but some. The hissing sound was confusing me quiet a bit too, i thought it was the carb.

While the header is off is it ok to spray some gasoline in exhaust port and take a tooth brush to it? or i there another way to clean them up? thanks agian everyone.

Brake cleaner would work better than gasoline, just be careful not to get any on the paint.
