Scavenger Hunt Today

Found this today it is a c30 but has coil springs in the rear? The guy at the yard said the only made it one year. Anyone know anything about one ton coil spring rear suspension? They used it as wrecker for years.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Today

I say C20 unless you can find the real VIN that proves it's a C30.

I have no idea, but I ran into one last year at a local wrecking yard. I found the picture I took. The one you looked at looks a little bigger.

My 1969 C20 has coil springs, so they definitely were not limited to C10s.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Today

Everything I have shows leaf rears were standard on C30 trucks (double checked '68 specifically}. Optional springs offered were heavier leaf mains and auxiliaries.
The C20 came standard with coils. Optional springs were heavier coils, leaf rear spring suspension, and leaf auxiliaries for both coil and leaf springs.
The C10 came standard with coils. Optional springs were heavier coils, leaf spring rear suspension, and leaf auxiliaries for coil springs.
Also worth noting is that Chevrolets had standard rear coils and GMC had rear leafs standard and coils were optional.
Longhorns had leaf springs as standard on both C20 and C30s.
If this is truly a C30 then the frame, VIN plate and glove box should have corroborating data.

I tryed to get the data of the spid but it had light overspray on it,the next time I go there I will take something to clean it up and get some photos of the data plate. I just thought it was a interest truck.
